Suicide: a matter
of public health
It develops an important campaign at the moment in this country, with an important support of IDE – Institute of Spirit Spreading, Araras – SP, which main is to clarify the people about the theme suicide, and doing this it is expected to reduce the incidence which has reached in the last years a value never seen.
The subject is the main theme in the interview given by the confrere Antonio Carlos Braga dos Santos, one of the highlights in this current edition.
The campaign proposes that the theme suicide cannot be in shadows anymore and it is necessary to talk about it openly and clear, due to its prevention begins with knowledge.
After all, we are facing a public health issue and it is like this, clear and transparent that questions from these nature have to be treated.
This is the fourth time in this space it is analyzed the theme suicide, its causes and its consequences.(1) There is, however, a related aspect with the theme that it looks basic onto the question prevention.
We have written before the tests, difficulties, vicissitude and temptations are part of the developing process and having its nature, they will not disappear from our path just because we knowledge ourselves.
We have copied with well-informed people due to suicide that they tried to kill themselves more than once, which it did not happen because they were helped in time. Talking to them, they told us when the morbid idea is persistent and the harassment is huge, it is really difficult for the person to remember what it has learnt or it put strengths together to hold itself.
Looms, then the need for constant prayer and vigilance, as recommended by Jesus in a phrase we all know: Watch and pray lest ye enter into temptation!
It is inevitable that we remember here the answer that the spiritual teachers gave to Kardec regarding the influence exercised by evil spirits, which we reproduce below:
469. By what means can we neutralize the influence of evil spirits? "Practicing good and putting God in all your trust, avoid the influence of the lower spirits and wipe out the empire who wish to have on you. Beware of meeting the suggestions of spirits who raise you bad thoughts, that blow discord among yourselves and that inflate into you the evil passions. Distrust especially those who exalt your pride, as they will assail you in your weak side. That is why Jesus, in the Lord's Prayer, taught you to say, 'Lord! Do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil." (The Spirits' Book, question 469)
If the advice given by the immortal works against an external influence - that is exercised by evil spirits – it is certainly going to work against internal influences, which come from our unfortunate inclinations, which generate, as we know, what it is called temptations and many of the obsessive processes.
Suicide prevention requires, as we see, a combination of factors that begins with the clarification, but does not end in it.
This is a larger and much broader goal, which it will help us to overcome the difficulties and inevitable vicissitudes in the reincarnation process.
We refer to the balance of our soul, convinced that a balanced soul will be able to face and overcome any challenge, no matter how painful it may be, without being carried away by misleading avoidance feature, aware that suicide does not solve any problem, it simply worsens.
