The Fearful Gecko

Walking through the woods, a small gecko climbed on a large tree and then, because it was very little, did not know how to get down.

At the same time, a giraffe that was in the forest feeding on the leaves of trees, especially the most delicate ones which were her favourite, was about to bite on some when she heard a different noise.

It was the little gecko crying because she could not get down from the tree. The giraffe looked and found the gecko on a leaf - and exactly on the leaf she was about to bite!

- What are you doing here so high? Who are you?

The gecko stopped crying and looked at who was talking to her.

- Who are you with all those spots?... - she asked.

- I asked first and I'm bigger. I have preference. Who are you?

The little gecko looked at that big face near her, saw the huge mouth and decided to answer:

- I am Gecko! And you?

- Ah! I am Giraffe! But why are you crying, child?

- Oh, Giraffe! It's a long story. I got lost from my mother and now I do not know how to get home! That's why I'm so sad! Whaaaa... whaaaa... whaaaa...

And she began to cry again.

The giraffe, who could not stand her crying, said:

- Stop crying, Gecko! I'll see what I can do for you. Here in the forest, we have a very good system of communication! We scream and the others can hear us!

- Ah... How interesting! - said Gecko as she stopped crying.

- Yeah! So, I'll ask if anyone knows your family!

And the giraffe, raising further the neck, began to emit her sounds. But they were so loud that poor Gecko had she covered her delicate ears with her two hands.

- Help! I cannot stand the screaming ... - she thought, hiding in a tree crevice.

At the end of her communication the giraffe looked for little Gecko but could not find her.

- Gecko! Gecko! Where are you?...

And she began to look everywhere, in the branches above and below, until she saw a little animal all curled up with her head hidden between two leaves.

- Ah! Finally I found you, Gecko! Well, I spoke with the other animals of the forest, but no one knows your mom. They will look and if they find her they will bring her here. It's that OK?

- Thank you, Giraffe. But what do I do now?

- Stay here quietly, feeding on these leaves that you like.

But the days passed and Gecko's mother did not appear. Until she asked:

- Giraffe, you walk around so much! Couldn't you take me on your back? Maybe I could find my mother? I promise not to bother you!

Giraffe agreed and there they went walking through the woods. The small gecko did not rest for a minute, watching everything around, anxious to find her mother.

Until a few days later, at one point passing near a tree, Gecko saw a little known figure, and asked her friend:

- Giraffe! Please, can you stop a little bit? I think I saw my mother on that tree we just passed.

Giraffe stopped and little Gecko, examining the place, found her mother:

- Mom! Mom! It's me, your daughter!

Mother Gecko stopped working when she heard that voice so familiar:

- It's my daughter! Gecko! Where are you?

Suddenly Mother Gecko saw a huge neck and was startled:

- What is this? A huge giraffe! God help me!

But up on Giraffe's head, her happy little girl appeared:

- Mom! Mom! I'm here! Look, on the giraffe's head!

Mother Gecko looked and discovered her daughter amid the giraffe's hairs:

- My daughter! Aren't you afraid of falling?

- No, Mom! Giraffe is my friend. We have been looking for you for days. I am glad we found you, Mom!

Giraffe opened her big mouth in a huge smile:

- What happiness to have found you, Mother Gecko! Your daughter was very worried.

- Thank you, Giraffe, for everything you did for my daughter, and I will be grateful forever.

Giraffe smiled again and said:

- I have always believed that we all should help each other. So, whenever I can, I help someone in trouble. So when I am in need, I will have someone to help me. So, God bless... I wish you all the best!

Mother Gecko looked at the huge giraffe and replied:

- I like your attitude, Giraffe. And I will start to do the same thing. Thus, if you need help someday you can count on us, isn't it, honey?

- Of course, Mom! My friendship with Giraffe is now eternal!

The giraffe went one way and the two geckos went the other way but all were very happy with the new friend they had.
