The Little Blue Toy Car

One day, a boy named Hugo was playing at Marc's house, his classmate, and saw a beautiful toy car.

- What a neat toy, Marc! Where did you buy it?

- I got it as a gift from my grandfather Fabio, who brought it as a souvenir of a trip he took. I also really like it! - Marc replied.

They played for a few hours, until Hugo's mother came to get him. He said goodbye to his friend and his mother thanked Marc's mother:

- Thank you for allowing my son to play at your home. Was he trouble?

- Of course not! You can bring him over whenever you want!

- I would like Marc to go play with Hugo at my home. Let's do it again any of these days?

Mother and son agreed, and the guests left.

But the truth is that, liking the toy, Hugo took it with him to his house. As his mother would not allow him to keep something that was not his, Hugo hid it inside his wardrobe, in the back, so that no one would find it.

Later on, Marc was putting his toys away and noticed he was missing exactly that new blue toy car. He complained to his mother, who replied:

- Don’t you worry, honey. It’s probably under some furniture. I will look for it when I am tidying up the house.

But they searched the whole house and nothing. The toy car was gone.

Marc was very upset. It was his favorite toy and a memento from grandpa Fabio! He could not accept that his new toy was gone. He would give anything to have it back!

At school one day, Marc asked Hugo where he had left the blue toy car that day when they played together, and Hugo said:

- I left it right there along with the other toys. Why, Marc?

- It is just that I never found it again!

- You'll end up finding it, do not worry - said Hugo, already with a heavy conscience.

In fact, Hugo was already feeling guilty. He had never had peace again since he took his friend’s toy home. And worst of all, he could not even play with it because he was afraid that his mother would see him and ask where he had gotten the toy.

But one day, Hugo's mother was tidying his wardrobe and, in the back, in the midst of his clothes, found the blue toy car. Hugo, who was entering the room after showering, saw the toy car on his mother's hands as she asked:

- Son, whose car is this here? I do not remember having seen it before!

Hugo sat on the bed, frightened, and began to cry. His mother sat next to him and asked what was going on, and the boy said:

- Mom, do you remember that day I was playing with Marc? He got it from his grandfather as a gift, but I was crazy about it. And I took it! ...

His mother, surprised to hear her son tell such a thing, said:

- Hugo, honey, but this is theft! You brought home something that does not belong to you! And now, what do we do?

- I don’t know, Mom, but the truth is that I have not had peace since that day. Help me!

The mother hugged her son, full of mercy. She knew that the child was suffering, and considered:

- Hugo, you need to return the toy to your friend Marc. Say you are sorry. He will understand, I'm sure, honey.

The next day, the mother took the child to his friend's house. Marc and his mother received them happily. While the ladies were talking in the living room, the boys went to Marc’s room to play. But before that, however, filling himself with courage, Hugo grabbed his backpack, took the toy car from inside and said:

- Marc, remember that day we played here? I took your blue toy car. And I haven’t had peace since because I know that was wrong. I fell in love with your toy and at the time did not think of the consequences. But the truth is that I can’t bear it anymore. I told my mother and she gave me the strength to come return it. Will you forgive me?

Marc, seeing the toy he had sought so much in Hugo’s hands, had a huge smile on his face, reaching out to get it.

- Take it! It's yours! - Hugo said while his eyes teared up.

Marc took the toy car, inspected it in his hands and said:

- It is in the same condition ... You took good care of it, Hugo.

- Sorry, Marc. I did not know it would make me so sick taking something from someone!

Marc looked at Hugo and replied:

- Hugo, I knew that the toy car was with you, but I prayed a lot to Jesus asking that you could return it. And I was not wrong. I really like you, my friend, and did not want to ruin our friendship.

Thus saying, Marc approached Hugo giving him a tight hug, which made Hugo cry with emotion.

- Marc, I did not know you were so special. You knew that I had your toy car, but you never said anything, never blamed me for it. Thank you! Thank you for your generosity. I learned that honesty is essential in our lives.

From that day on, the friendship between the two boys grew, becoming stronger through time and perpetuating into adulthood, where one could always count on the other in all circumstances.
