September 7th

Since early age we learn in school it was on a day like today, September 7th, Brazil became independent from Portugal.

Would the spiritual benefactors have participated, invisible to our eyes, the events that led to the independence of our nation?

The action of the spirits on human events is as Spiritism teaches us, much bigger than we realize. It is presented in moments of difficulty we face, as in disease and in the hours preceding the disembodiment, as well as in times of joy, as occurs at the wedding of a dear family or on arrival to the world of a young child.

If this fact is given on the mentioned occasions, would something similar happen at crucial moments of life of a country?

No need to know the spiritual doctrine to imagine that this possibility exists and surely must play an important role for the expected success is achieved.

The story goes that on January 9th, 1822 it was recorded what it would be known as "the Day I am" when D. Pedro I, then Prince Regent of Brazil, did not follow orders of the Portuguese Cortes to immediately leave Brazil and return to Portugal. The Cortes of Portugal were concerned with the movements occurring in Brazil towards political emancipation, and saw the return of Pedro a way to re-colonize Brazil and weaken thus the ideas of independence.

Brazilian politicians moved and managed to collect about 8000 signatures requesting Pedro to stay in Brazil. Given this fact, Pedro said: "If it's for the good of all and the general happiness of the nation, I am ready! Tell the people that I am." The decision was crucial to strengthen Brazil's position of seeking independence and thus freeing up the time of Portuguese influence.

Humberto de Campos, in the book Brazil, Heart of the World, Fatherland of the Gospel, psychographic mediumship work by Chico Xavier and first published in 1938, refers in the chapter entitled "The Independence", the relevant spiritual ancestors to the facts that occurred in Brazil since the "The day I am" until September 7th.

Many struggles, as we know, were fought at that time, but Ishmael, the spiritual protector of Brazil, and his messengers have multiplied in all sectors with the aim of reconciling their embodied siblings, in harmony and peace, in order to preserve the territorial unity of Brazil, preventing it from fragmenting.

Jose Bonifacio, then minister of the kingdom of Brazil and Foreign Affairs, advised Pedro a trip to Minas Gerais, in order to unify the general sentiment in favor of independence and calm the bitter struggle of factions. Then another trip with the same goals held the prince regent to São Paulo.

This is what, according to the narration done by Humberto de Campos, occurred on the D. Pedro’s trip to São Paulo:

The Scouts, who always walked in Brazil at the forefront of emancipation and autonomy, receive him with the enthusiasm of his libertarian passion and the joy of his generous hospitality, and while there's music and flowers in theaters and on the streets of São Paulo, celebrating the event, the invisible phalanges gather at  Piratininga’s High School. The spiritual conclave takes place under the direction of Ishmael, which radiates the light of his merciful heart. There are heroes of Pernambuco and Maranhão, Minas Gerais and São Paulo struggles, hearing him full of weighting and teachings. Ending his speech dotted with great wisdom, the messenger of Jesus declared:

- The independence of Brazil, my brethren, is definitely proclaimed. Since 1808, no one could deny it or withdraw this freedom. The emancipation of the Fatherland of the Gospel was consolidated, however, with the facts recorded in these last days, and to not break the force of the land manners, we will now choose a date to mark posterity this indestructible freedom.

Addressing to Tiradentes, who was present, concluded:

- Our brother, martyred a few years ago for the great cause, will follow D. Pedro on his return to Rio and also the generous land of São Paulo; he will help his heart in the supreme cry of freedom. It will unite so, once again, the two large workshops of progress of the nation, to be the registers of the unforgettable event in the annals of history. The cry of emancipation left the mountains and it should find here its accomplished eco. Now, all of us who have gathered here in the sacred Piratininga’s High School, we raise our hearts to God in prayer, for the good of Brazil.

From there, the silent scope of those respectable walls arose a new vibration of brotherhood and love.

Tiradentes accompanied the prince in his lavish days, back to Rio de Janeiro. A providential mail leads to knowledge D. Pedro of the new impositions from Cortes of Lisbon and right there, on the banks of Ipiranga, when no one had this last statement by him, he lets out a cry of "Independence or Death!" Without suspecting that he was a docile instrument of an invisible messenger, that guarded the greatness of the nation. (Brazil, Heart of the World, Fatherland of the Gospel - The Independence.)

Concluding his report, Humberto de Campos added:

That is why the September 7th, with few comments of the official story that considered the independence ever held in the proclamations of August 1st, 1822, it passed to the memory of the entire nationality as Independence Day and unforgettable day of its freedom. This fact unnoticed by the majority of scholars, is the intuitive membership of the people of the high purposes of the spiritual world.
