Celebrating Christmas

In one of the rooms of an old house there were several musical instruments.

The old house was inhabited by a family which for generations had members that loved the art of music and there they had a beautiful piano, a violin, a guitar, a cello and a flute.

Whenever there was a celebration in the house, they were called to play, contributing to the joy and entertainment of the guests at the hands of the family members, charming everyone.

With great pleasure, the instruments were dusted, polished and taken to the presence of elegant and refined people. At the end of the presentation, the applause of all would fill them with satisfaction and pride.

In the following days the piano, the violin, the guitar and the cello would not talk about anything else. They remembered the songs and each one's contribution, extolling their own performance.

The Grand Piano, inflating its chest with pride, claimed:

- Ah! What a great night, thanks to my efficiency.

The violin, from its corner, retorted with a frown:

- You're wrong, Mr. Piano. It was thanks to the delicacy of my sound that people were moved.

- Yeah, right! My sound is unmistakable and enhances the execution of the melody – the Cello growled with its deep
voice.

The guitar, from its stand, pompously considered:

- Make no mistake. The truth is that my solo part charmed everyone!

Thus they spoke, praising their own virtues, while the shy Flute cowered away from its companions.

The Piano, arrogant and smug, from the top of its greatness, looked at the Flute and asked:

- And you, Flute, will not say anything?

The humble Flute felling tiny and fragile sighed and talked with its sweet and pitch perfect voice:

- Oh! I recognize that I cannot compete with you.

The other instruments exchanged a look of understanding and smiled, agreeing with her.

And so the days passed.

The year was almost over and the holidays approached.

On Christmas Eve, a big party was expected at the mansion and the instruments were preparing for another presentation.

The servants took care of the preparations. Ornaments, lights, and a beautiful Christmas tree were assembled in the great room. The Christmas spirit took hold of everyone. There would be a reenactment of the arrival of Jesus to the world, with the participation of the family members.

To do so, a scenic set was placed near the big tree: a stable with various animals like sheep, oxen, cows, horses and a donkey. A young man and a young woman would play the role of Jesus' parents Mary and Joseph. Everything was ready, when someone asked:

- Daddy, what about the music? We forgot the music!

The instruments were awaiting with intense anticipation. Which would be played? Would it be the Piano? Maybe the Violin?

The head of the family stopped what he was doing, thought for a minute, and decided:

- I wish the music to be light, soft and delicate, just like the important moment to humanity that will be represented here tonight. To honor Jesus, our Divine Master, I think the background music should be played with our beloved Flute, performed by my grandson James. The flute's humility is more in line with this moment and the evangelical lessons.

Thus, as the party started, the delicate sound of the Flute was played by a child as the background music for the play that reenacted the birth of Jesus, which moved all in attendance, cradling their hearts and raising everyone's thoughts to the Divine Birthday boy, as they remembered His passage through the earth, and sending Him tender and loving vibrations of undying gratitude.

Once it was over all embraced, repeating:

- MERRY CHRISTMAS!...
