Providential Delay

Although it was not summer, the sun was shining and the days were warm and pleasant.

Because the holidays were approaching and the company in which George worked would be closed for a few days, he decided to visit his parents in a pleasant seaside town.

When George communicated his decision to the family, they all rejoiced. All were thrilled with the news, already thinking of the things that they would bring.

- Daddy, can I bring my bike? - asked three year-old Fred, with his infant voice.

- Unfortunately not, my son. We are going by bus. We will only bring what fits in our suitcases.

- Ah! So what am I bringing? - asked again the little one.

- Fred, you can bring the tennis rackets and the balls - said eight year-old Arthur, and he continued – As far as I am concerned, I am bringing my football.

Five year-old Helen, thought for a bit and resolved:

- I'll bring my favorite doll and my teddy bear.

Due to the news, the family was already excited thinking about the joy of seeing the grandparents, sea bathing and the rides they would go on.

Thus, they arranged everything they would take with them. Then the big day arrived. They woke up very early and, euphoric, had breakfast. Before leaving, the mother asked:

- Are you forgetting anything?

- No! ... - that was the general response.

But Arthur, being thoughtful for a moment, remembered:

- Dad, I think we're forgetting something important.

- And what is it, son?

- We did not ask God's blessing for our trip!

The mother was moved with her son's remind. The father nodded in agreement:

- You are absolutely right, Arthur. Very well recalled. In addition, we have time – he said checking his wristwatch.

All settled in the living room and his father asked him to do the prayer . So Arthur closed his eyes and began to pray:

- Lord Jesus, we are happy because we are travelling to Grandpa Olympio and Grandma Clara's home. I ask your blessings for all of us, so that everything goes well and we have a good trip. And once there, may we bring joy to Grandma and Grandpa's home. Thank you.

After the prayer they left. The taxi cab, which had arrived well in advance, was awaiting. They arranged the luggage in the car and went to the bus station. With tickets in hand, they arrived at the platform. The officer took the tickets, looked at them and said:

- Sir, this bus has already left!

- Say what? It cannot be! We are on time, we got up early! The time is 7 hours and 15 minutes! And now it's just after seven!...

- Your watch is slow, sir. Look over there at the clock: it's 7:30.

George looked at the Bus Station's big clock and confirmed. The officer was right. He looked back at his wristwatch and it was indeed late.

Perplexed, he turned to the officer of the bus company, not knowing what to do.

- And now, what do I do? My family is here, waiting to travel! - he said.

- Well, you go to the counter of the company and explain the situation. They will put you on the first bus, if there are places available.

George, very upset and not understanding how he made that mistake, left his wife and children with the luggage and ran to resolve the issue. The very kind girl who assisted him told him not to worry because the next bus had some available seats. She exchanged the tickets and he returned to his family feeling calmer.

So, an hour later, they were finally able to board. The trip ran smoothly until they saw a bus of the same company by the roadside. The driver stopped and went to see what was happening as did some passengers who were worried.

They learned that the bus had had an

accident and many injured passengers were taken to the nearest hospital.

Upon hearing the story, George immediately remembered Arthur's prayer asking God's protection for their trip . Returning to his family, with tears in his eyes, he told what had happened to his wife and children, saying:

- Arthur, my son, you saved our lives today. Reminding us to pray, you facilitated the protection of

God for us. Surely, some Spiritual Friend suggested to you the idea, and asking God's blessing for our trip, we were protected.

And George continued as he exchanged a look with his wife:

- There's no other explanation! When I looked at my watch before we left the house, it was right but when we got to the bus station, it was late ! How do you explain that? Only through the help of Jesus!

Everyone on the bus heard it and learned of the incident, and were both surprised and amazed.

At that moment, George stood up and asked all passengers to join him in a prayer of thanksgiving to God, so that He would continue to protect them and also help the passengers of the other bus, especially the injured ones to recover soon .

George's family spent very pleasant days at the beach, along with the grandparents, remembering with gratitude the help they received from above.
