The Astral City may become
a TV series

The great success of the movie The Astral City will have two important consequences to the dissemination of the Spiritist Doctrine. Firstly, Wagner de Assis, who is the movie director and producer, suggested that he will continue the series and will film The Messengers, which is the second book.

Secondly, it has been announced on TV and on the internet the idea of making a TV series about The Astral City. If this happens, the producers believe that several parts of the book, which were not included in the movie, can be explored in detail in the series.

For now it is only an idea, but some sources have said that TV Globo is interested in this project since its directors know that spiritist related programmes, such as the soap opera “Written on the Starts” and the miniseries “Cure”, have a great audience.

The Astral City, for those who did not watch it yet, tells the story of Andre Luiz: a successful doctor that, after his death, awakes in the spiritual world. While learning what life is like in another dimension, he is invited to start the long journey of self-knowledge and transformation.

The Astral City is the name of the spiritual colony that has addmited Andre as a patient and in which he started an extraordinary inner reform. In the movie there is a dialogue among himself, Emmanuel and Clarêncio – which is not part of the book – where the spiritual instructor says: “I could never imagine that the awakening was so intense”

Everybody that watches the movie, even not having read the book, can clearly see that the main message is a basic rule: as you sow, so shall you reap. If we sow evil, we will reap evil; if we do not sow anything, we will not reap anything, and last but not least; if we sow goodness, will reap goodness. This teaching is deeply embedded in the Christian thought.

A TV series would be able to better explore the aspects and teachings of the book, what is humanly impossible to do in a two hours movie. It will be also able to clarify some parts of the movie which may be confusing for those who did not read the book.

For instance the music field, explained on the chapter 45 of the book, is much more beautiful and sophisticated than what has been shown in the movie. Several styles of music are played to please the personal taste of each group.

Our personal wish is that both ideas come true; that the film becomes a TV series and that Wagner de Assis can put the book The Messengers on the big screen, which has all atributes to repeat the success of Chico Xavier and The Astral City.
