Text for reading

44. Jesus alludes to his death and resurrection - After saying to Peter, "thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it and I'll give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven, "Jesus ordered his disciples to tell no man that he was Christ, and since then began to show them that he must go to Jerusalem to suffer in hands of the elders, priests and scribes, be killed, and finally raised the third day. Peter began to rebuke him, saying that in any way that would happen. But Jesus turned and said to him: "Get behind me, Satan, who serves me as a scandal, because the things that are of God, but only those of men." And he recommended to his disciples: "If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself, take on his cross and follow me, because that would save his life shall lose it and whoever lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and lose his own soul? For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then give to each according to his deeds. " (Matthew 16:18 to 16:28.)

45. Jesus is visited by Moses and Elijah - Being Jesus at a high mountain with Moses and Elijah, a bright cloud overshadowed them and the cloud came a voice saying: "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear it." (NR: This mountain, whose name is not mentioned by Matthew, is Mount Tabor.) Peter, John and James, who saw all, heard it, they fell on their faces and were sore afraid. Jesus touched them and said: "Arise, and be not afraid." Then they lifted their eyes and saw no one, except Jesus, who ordered them as soon as descended from the mountain: "Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen from the dead." (Matthew 17:4 to 17:9.)

46. True faith can move mountains - Unable to heal the lunatic boy, the Lord's disciples asked him, in particular, which would have been the cause of his failure. Why could not they get rid of the demon child that dominated? Jesus was emphatic: "Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Move from here to there - and there are passing, and nothing will be impossible." The Lord added, however, that this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting. (Matthew 17:18 to 17:21.)

47. The money that came from the sea - Jesus and his disciples were still in Galilee when he said: "The Son of man is betrayed into the hands of men, and will kill him, and the third day rise again." The disciples were greatly distressed. Soon after, on arrival at Capernaum, those who charged the Dr said to Peter: "Does not your teacher pay the GRD?" He said yes. Then, back home, before that Peter touched on the subject, Jesus prevented him, saying, "go overboard and throw out your hook, take the first fish that comes up, and opening his mouth, you will find a static, take it, and give it to me and thee. " (Matthew 17:22 to 17:27.)

48. The greatest in the kingdom of heaven - At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, when someone asked, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" Jesus called a little child, put him in their midst and said: "Verily I say unto you, if not repentance and you do not become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes in my name a boy as this, receives me. But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, you better off than if he hung around his neck a millstone Watermill, and were drowned in the depths of the sea. " (NR: Millstone is a stone used in windmills.) (Matthew 18:1 to 18:6.)

Answers to questions

1. It was a hill near the Sea of Galilee that Jesus performed the second multiplication of loaves and fishes. How many fish and bread brought his disciples? And then how many were satisfied?

They brought a few loaves and fishes. Jesus took them and gave thanks, broke them and gave to the disciples and the disciples gave them to people. They all ate and were filled, and that remained over, seven baskets full of pieces. Now those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children. (Matthew 15:29 to 15:38.)

2. Jesus told his disciples, warned and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees. They at first did not understand the meaning of the warning. What is the meaning of it?

The disciples did not understand those words and wondered what he had said so because they had not brought bread. Jesus then remarked: "What do you not understand that I talked about bread? But I said: Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees. " Then they realized that the Master was not referring to the yeast used in the manufacture of bread, but the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees. (Matthew 16:5 to 16:12.)

3. The Master, after reaching the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, Who do men say that the Son of man? Like the disciples responded to this question?

They replied, Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, and others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets. Jesus then asked, But whom say ye that I am? Simon Peter answered, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. (Matthew 16:13 to 16:20.)

4. When Jesus was transfigured on Mount Tabor, it appeared two figures of the Old Testament. Who were they and who was at that time with Jesus?

Who came to Jesus were Moses and Elijah. The Master was accompanied at the time of Peter and the brothers James and John, sons of Zebedee. Jesus was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun and his garments became white as light. He then appeared to them Moses and Elijah. At one point, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and the cloud came a voice, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: hear him. (Matthew 17:1 to 17:8.)

5. When his disciples asked him, saying, "Why do the scribes say that it is necessary that Elijah must first come?", What was Jesus' answer?

Jesus said to them: Elias indeed shall come, and restore all things; pronounce you, however, that Elijah is come already, and did not know him before you did whatever they pleased. So also the Son of man suffer in his hands. Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them concerning John the Baptist. (Matthew 17:9 to 17:13.)
