What we think
about polemics

Every time that establishes some controversy in the spirit field are noticeable in people, readers or not of our magazine, two orders of ideas.

There are those who understand that every controversy in a spiritist journal must be repelled because the controversy, according to this thinking, lead to nowhere and can cause some discomfort and even animosity among debaters.

Although a minority, the other school of thought sees, yes, the polemical relevance when constructive, following therein the example of Allan Kardec, who said that there was a kind of controversy that will never back down: a serious discussion of the Spiritist principles. We engage, of course, this group, with the express condition that the discussion does not slip into aggression or offending institutions or people.

Recently, as the reader certainly knows, this journal discussed the question of the evolution of the spiritual principle and the participation of the mineral kingdom in this process. It has been shown on occasion that there is no consensus among spiritist scholars and it was exactly why the magazine hosted on various dates, the publication of texts which clearly showed the antagonism of ideas on the issue, leaving the reader to draw his/her own conclusions; if it is understood that there are undoubted benefits in spiritist literature for it.

A contributor of this journal came up a few days ago with an interesting question:

- Why emphasize a clearly contentious issue when there are so many others to demand our attention?

Indeed; there is no way to disagree with that observation, since, in that case, we face with an argument that does not really present priority, very similar, by the way, as it involves the identity of the Spirit of Truth, who has not similarly the importance that they give to it.

In the recent episode, it is good the reader knows that the relevant participation of the mineral kingdom in the evolutionary process discussion was raised by a reader.

When writing the text that was published in answer to the reader, aware of the divergence of thought regarding the matter, we got support in whatever exists among spiritist authors who have treated the subject, that this consensus – it is repeated – it is not true regarding the participation of the mineral kingdom in the evolutionary process.

We believe that with what has been published, we are facing a loser issue, at least with regard to this magazine, although we recognize that from the doctrinal point of view, the issue is not finished.
