D. What are the ways to combat the obsession?

Text for reading

241. Besides being one of the biggest pitfalls of mediumship, obsession is also one of the most frequent. So do not be too all efforts to fight it, because it constitutes an absolute bar to goodness and truthfulness of communications. Now, being always a constraint effect and how it can never be wielded by a good spirit, all communication given by a medium obsessed source is suspect and not worthy of any trust. (Item 242)

242. Faced with this danger, it becomes dangerous to be psychic? Kardec says, the danger is not in Spiritualism in itself, because it can instead serve in government and to preserve us from the risk we run, our in absentia. The danger is proudly claim to certain mediums to judge, lightly exclusive instruments of superior spirits and that kind of fascination that does not allow them to understand the nonsense that are interpreters. Moreover, even those who are not mediums can let itself be caught. (Item 244)

243. Spirits data systems are generally scribblers, why seek the mediums who write with ease and can fascinate. They are almost always very verbose and wordy. Superior spirits are sober words and say a lot in a few sentences. (Item 247)

244. Only there obsession itself when the Spirit requires a medium and removes others intentionally, which can never be the work of a good spirit. Generally, one that seizes the medium, to master it, does not support the critical examination of their communications, and when he sees that they are not accepted, the medium inspires the thought isolate themselves. Every medium that offends with critical communications it receives echoes the spirit that dominates. (Item 248)

245. No one can cure a patient who persist in their evil and save it delights. (Item 250)

246. Kardec refers to the case of sisters who were tormented by an evil spirit. The gap open to spiritual influence was slander because they loved to badmouth the next and Spirit avenged them, since out in life, a workhorse in that house. The teaching emphasizes that the case is: moral imperfections give rise to the action of obsessing, and safest way to get rid of them is to attract good spirits by doing good. (Item 252)

247. It should not be attributed to the direct action of spirits that all may experience setbacks, which not rarely arise from negligence or improvidence. (Item 253)

248. Kardec cites the case of the farmer who for twelve years has suffered all manner of misfortunes, relative to their cattle. The novenas, masses and exorcisms, they told me to do, nothing in the benefited. When he had resorted to Kardec, the Encoder the Spirits got the following explanation: "The death or sickness of cattle this man come from their pens are infected and it does not fix them, because it costs money." (Item 253)

249. Responding to Kardec about people of great merit and morality blameless, yet unable to communicate with good spirits, they said: "It is an ordeal. Besides, who tells you they do not bring the heart spotted a little evil ? pride that does not dominate the appearance of a little kindness? Such evidence, obsessed with the show to its weakness, should make it lean towards humility." "The most powerful way to combat the influence of evil spirits is to approach as closely as possible the nature of the good." (Item 254, question 2)

Answers to questions

A. How that happens is the subjugation obsessional?

Like a cloak thrown over the individual, the body subjugation often takes the energy of the obsessed, it is necessary to master the evil spirits, so in these cases, it takes the intervention of a third person acting by magnetism or by force of his will, to relieve the sick. Acute form of obsessive phenomenon, subjugation is a pressure that paralyzes the will of the one who suffers and does act against their own ideas. The yoke body means that the disembodied Spirit acts on the material organs of the obsessed, taking it to cause involuntary movements, even in the most inopportune moments. (The Book of Mediums, items 240 and 251.)

B. The subjugation can give rise to madness?

Taken to a certain degree, the subjugation body can give rise to a kind of madness whose cause is unknown in the world, but that has no relation to the common madness. Among those treated by madmen there are many who are just overwhelmed; need a moral treatment, while actually go crazy with body treatments. When doctors know well Spiritualism, know this distinction and heal more patients than the showers. (Ibid., item 254, paragraph 6.)

C. To have ascendancy over the inferior spirits, which is the necessary condition?

Is exerted on the ascending inferior spirits for moral superiority only. The perverse spirits feel his superiors in good men. In the face of those who oppose them not only the energy of the will, a kind of brute force, they fight and are often stronger. Who does not have the moral authority or the invocation of God's name will exert any influence there. St. Louis teaches that God's name has influence on imperfect spirits only in the mouth of him who can help themselves with authority, their virtues. In the mouth of the man who has not the Spirit on no moral ascendancy, that name is a word like any other. (Ibid., item 279.)

D. What are the ways to combat the obsession?

The means of countering the obsession vary according to the character that presents.

In simple obsession, two essential things must be done: first - prove to the Spirit that we are not your pawns and it is impossible to deceive us; 2a - tired your patience, showing us more patients than he, if he is well convinced that loses its time, eventually retire, as do the importunate who do not listen. The medium or the victim of obsession should also make a fervent appeal to his spiritual protector, as well as the good spirits that you are friendly and beg them to attend. It should also stop all communication, since we recognize that it comes from a bad spirit, to not give you the pleasure to be heard. As for the Spirit obsessor, as bad as it is, we must treat him with severity, but with kindness, and beat him by good manners, praying for him. Moralizing up, it will eventually correct: it is a conversion to undertake arduous task, thankless, daunting even, but whose merit lies in the difficulty and satisfaction, if well done, to have brought on track a lost soul.

In fascination, we must convince the medium or the person obsessed that he is deluded, turning his obsession in a case of simple obsession, which is not always easy, even if not sometimes impossible. One can not, in fact, cure a patient who is obstinate in maintaining their disease and it delights. The fascinated gets really bad advice, criticism offends and irritates, and everyone who does not share the admiration you fall into antipathy.

In subjugation body, as has been said, it takes the intervention of a third person, who will perform a predominance on the obsessive. But how this dominance can only be moral, is given only to a person morally superior to Spirit exercise it, and its power will be greater the higher is its moral superiority. In this case, the magnetic action of a good hypnotist can come in usefully aid the obsessed. Moreover, it is always good to take for a medium secure advice from a superior spirit or its spiritual protector. In short, one must understand that there is no material process, especially no formula, no sacramental word that has the power to expel obsessing spirits. (Ibid., items 249-251).
