D. What are the defects that away from us the good spirits?

Text for reading

223. Timothy and Erastus assert that, whatever the nature of the mediums - intuitive, semi-mechanical or mechanical - do not vary essentially the processes of communication with them. They communicate with the reds, the same way they communicate with the spirits themselves: only by so-irradiation of their thinking. Obviously, when you are in a medium populated the brain acquired knowledge in their current life and his Spirit rich in latent knowledge obtained in previous lives, they serve is his preference, because with it the phenomenon is much easier than with a medium of limited intelligence and limited knowledge previously acquired. When the medium is completely foreign to the subject matter of the communication, the work of the Spirit becomes painful and resembles the meeting of words and letters, one by one, as in typesetting. (Item 225)

224. The development of mediumship has no relation to the moral development of mediums. The mediumistic faculty is rooted in the body and is independent of morality. The same is not true, however, with its use, which can be good or bad, depending on the qualities of the medium. (Item 226, question 1)

225. God provides the right psychic for all persons. If there are people that are unworthy, it is that need more than the others, to improve. (Item 226, question 2) 226. The mediums who make bad use of his faculties, will be doubly punished because they have more than a means to clarify and not profit. (Item 226, question 3)

227. The good spirits may, at times, they are deceived even the best mediums for them to exercise consideration and teach them to discern the true from the false. Moreover, however good it is, a medium is never so perfect that it can not be attacked by some weak side. False communications which he receives are warnings not to consider themselves infallible and not conceited. (Item 226, questions 6, 7 and 10)

228. Want good, repulse selfishness and pride - these are the necessary conditions for the word in the upper reaches of spirits free of any change. (Item 226, question 11)

229. The light always comes to the person who wishes to receive. Anyone who wants to clear up the darkness must flee, and the darkness are the impurity of heart. The really good spirits do not willingly attend to the call and bring the heart tainted by pride, greed and lack of charity. Expurguem is, therefore, who wish to clarify, all human vanity and humiliate your intelligence against the infinite power of the Creator. This is the best proof that could give the sincerity of the desire which animates and is a condition that can satisfy everyone. (Item 226, question 12)

230. All moral imperfections are open doors to the access of evil spirits. What they, however, operate with more skill is pride, because it is the least admits that the creature itself. Pride has lost many of the most beautiful mediums endowed colleges. Absolute confidence in the superiority of that gain, contempt for them that will not, unthinking emphasis on big names, refusing all advice, suspicion about any criticism, removal of which may emit disinterested opinions - these are the characteristics of the mediums proud. (Item 228)

231. The medium truly good, by contrast, does not seek to avail himself of his college, nor present it as a demonstration of its merits, and accept the good communications that are transmitted, as a grace, that he must become increasingly more worthy, for his kindness, generosity and modesty. (Item 229)

Answers to questions

A. What is the mediumship of healing?

This kind of mediumship consists mainly of the gift that certain people have to heal by touch, look at, even by a gesture, without the use of any drug. The magnetic fluid plays a big role here: the magnetic power resides in man, but is increased by the action of the spirits he calls to his aid. The Spirit who cares for the patient increases the strength and will of the medium, drive your fluid and gives the necessary qualities. (The Mediums' Book, items 175 and 176.)

B. How important is the spirit scale, and the synoptic view of mediuns?

The summary table of the different varieties of spiritualist mediums and scale should be under the eyes of those who cater to the spiritual manifestations. These two tables summarize all the principles of teaching and help bring Spiritualism to his true path. (Ibid., item 197.)

C. It must be accepted, without examination, all communications from spirits?

We must discern the authentic communications from those who are not. "When in doubt, abstain," says a proverb known. Therefore do not permit only what is to you of certain evidence. What reason and common sense disapprove, Reject boldly: it is better to reject ten truths than admit one lie, one false theory. (Ibid., item 230.)

D. What are the defects that away from us the good spirits?

The qualities that attract the good spirits are goodness, kindness, simplicity of heart, love for others, detachment from material things. The defects that are away from pride, selfishness, envy, jealousy, hatred, greed, lust and all the passions by which man clings to matter. (Ibid., item 227.)
