A minute of thoughtless pleasure and its possible effects

I
n the book
Plots of Fate (Tramas do Destino), chap. 17, his spiritual author, Manoel Philomeno de Miranda, refers to so-called social vices, we all, mediums, speakers, leaders and ordinary workers of the harvest spirit, we should avoid.

These vices are smoking, alcoholism, drug addiction, the excesses of the table, the mental and moral shortcomings, such as talks unhealthy, depressing and obscene; cultivation of vulgar thoughts, the nurturing of negative trends, as well as envy, jealousy, abuse, bitterness, railing and brushoff.

According to Philomeno, the cultivation of prayer and reading wholesome, which inspiring ideas and fortunate thoughts, are valuable antibodies against virulence of these pitfalls, while surveillance, through the gradual and systematic work, orderly and constant, the charitable action and the contributions of solidarity and tolerance provide conditions to a happy services execution and charges assume, making our passage through reincarnation fruitful experience.

You must always bear in mind that a moment of thoughtless pleasure can lead to loss of an entire existence!

In the book The Treasure of the Spiritists (O Tesouro dos Espíritas), translated into Portuguese by J. Herculaneum Pires, Miguel Vives studied in depth the problem of temptations and offers us reliable guidance on how you can neutralize them.

We must consider two councils when dealing with this issue, it can be when temptation comes just a very unfortunate inclination, without any outside influence, or when it is associated to influence from the spiritual plane.

The first board, so often reminded here, is expressed in a known recommendation made by Jesus: "Watch and pray lest ye enter into temptation." Unless we take that proposal due importance, we have no doubt we can fall back on the same networks that we have succumbed in the past.

The second advice was given to us in the issue 469 of The Spirit’s Book, the first and major work of spiritual doctrine.

Here's what is read in the above question:

469. By what means can we neutralize the influence of evil spirits?

"Practicing the good and putting in God all your trust; repulse the influence of lower Spirits and exterminate the wishing they have to rule over you. Beware to meet the suggestions of spirits that raise bad thoughts in you that blow discord among yourselves and inflate the evil passions. Distrust especially those that exalt pride, because those assail your weak side. This is why Jesus, the Lord's Prayer, taught you to say: 'Lord! Do not let us into temptation, but safe us from evil.’
