4 years of O Consolador

The dynamism of a spirit publication can be measured by in several ways. One of them is examining the public who read it how they interact with it and what advantages they take of it.

The first measure is easily deduced by reading and analyzing the Letters sent to the Editor weekly and which are posted here, a fact that catch the attention of those who drive this journal because of its number – always growing – and the complexity of issues addressed by our readers which has also been increasing.

In terms of quantity, it must be said that the number of letters sent to the journal is much greater than the amount published because we adopt the criterion of only publish letters that can reach other readers, depending on the focused subject.

Regarding to the advantage of internet users have been taking with our issues, the numbers are even more impressive.

More than one million was the total of downloading of the texts published by the magazine in four years of existence – from April 18th 2007 to March 31st 2011. Adding that it is not counted the nearly six million impressions of the magazines found in the same period. (About these numbers and the magazine worldwide expansion, go for the special report published in this issue).

As the reader well knows, nobody download a matter without a defined purpose, likewise, no one prints an edition to put it in the drawer. In both cases, the consequences are obvious, because they considerably expand the number of those take real advantage of that the magazine has published.

It is coming now our fourth anniversary, we know that the challenges and the difficulties tend to intensify, as the reader’s level of demand is amplified as the magazine gets a higher concept from them and also from people who lead the spiritual movement in Brazil and abroad.

In the face of it, we seize the moment to reiterate something we have already said before, relate to controversial issues.

It is not our intention to disparage anyone. The critiques posted here regarding to certain works do not extend to their authors. Its goal is to point to what – in our view – is consistent with the principles of the spiritual doctrine or have not observed the method called Kardecian.

However, we have no intention of being the masters of the truth, because we believe that it concerns to the reader and to him only, to separate the wheat from the chaff, exercising his reason and keeping in his mind the guidance given by Erasto: “When in doubt abstain, says one of your oldest proverbs. Admit only what is supported by evidence. When any new idea is brought forward, however specious it may appear, subject it to the test of reason and logical and reject it, unhesitatingly, what the reason and the common sense reproved. Remember that it is better to repudiate ten truths than to admit a single error, for, upon that one error.” (1)
