Gluttony

Alfred was a boy who ate too much, especially fatty foods. He was always hungry.

Vegetables, fruit and other healthy foods were out of his menu.

Mealtime was a drama. The food made with love by his mother, Elise, was no good to him.

- No, no, no! … I do not like this crap! - said the boy screaming.

- My son, the food is so tasty! I made it with love, try it! Eat a little, at least - said the

mother, trying to convince him.

- No! I want a hamburger and fries.

- Now it's lunchtime. It is not time for a snack - said the mother, full of patience.

- But I want to, and I want to! - shouted the boy undisciplined.

- My son, if it continues like this, soon you'll be as fat as a balloon!

- No use! I like hamburgers, French fries, popcorn, ice cream, chocolate and soft drinks! This business of vegetables and fruits, I do not like at all!

Elise, discouraged in the face of the screaming child, would end up giving up.

In addition, Alfred did not like to move much. He preferred to sit at the computer or watch television. Then time passed and he was growing ever fatter.

During Physical Education class at school, Alfred could not exercise because he got tired easily; at running races, he was always the last. When getting picked for football or basketball, nobody wanted him, because he

did not run, did not jump and could never get the ball.

One day Alfred came home with his head down, sad. Sitting on the side walk, he saw a boy he had seen at school, and the boy looked as sad as he did. Then, on impulse, he sat next to the boy and began a conversation:

- Are you all right, mate? You look sad … I'm Alfred. And you?

The boy looked at Alfred surprised. He was very poor and thin and pale.

- Roger. I haven't eaten for two days. We have nothing at home so I decided to go out to get something.

Hearing him speak, Alfred lowered his head in shame, thinking that at his home they never lacked food to eat, but instead there was food in excess. Looking at the boy, he felt even more shame. They should be almost the same age, but the boy was very skinny while he was huge.

- Roger, come with me! - Alfred said, taking a decision.

They went into Alfred's house and he explained the situation to his mother, who immediately arranged lunch and gave it to the boy. Then she wanted to know the family situation. Roger gave her their address and told her that his mother was ill and his father, who worked in construction, was unemployed.

Then Elise gave him a bag of groceries for the family. The boy thanked her and said goodbye, with her promise of visiting them the next day.

After the departure of the boy, Alfred told his mother:

- Oh, Mom! I got very embarrassed in face of Roger's problem. He has no food, he is hungry, and I eat so much! You were right. I eat a lot and have gained a lot of weight, and it bothers me
