Text for reading

1. The book of Acts - Luke is, without doubt, the author of Acts and the Gospel that bears his name. It seems that one of the major intents he had when he wrote, was to oppose this genuine and true story of the actions of Peter and Paul to the Acts of the Apostles that were circulating at that time, insincere, contrived by the malice of others, the Christian religion into disrepute. The book, written in Rome in the year 60 of our era, gives us a picture of the early Church diaphanous. His self-effacing style, limited to the facts, illuminated by an inner flame of apostolic zeal, make it a delightful read. (Editor's note: The publishers themselves Catholics differ with respect to the time of writing this book. According to Basil Blackwell, the most likely date would be between 75 and 90. There is no doubt, however, as to its true author: Luke, a disciple of Paul of Tarsus. This Publisher says further that the purpose of Luke, when writing this book was to revive the Christians, evoking fervent love of the primitive church, to believe that the action of the Paraclete, a time when it seemed that cooled the initial burning.) ("The Holy Bible, Book edition of Brazil SA, Volume I, pg. XXX. See also" Bible - God's Message. New Testament "by LEB - Basil Blackwell, pg. 163.)

2. Jesus appears to his disciples for forty days - yet Jesus was seen by his disciples for forty days, at which time they spoke about the kingdom of God and decided not to leave Jerusalem, waiting for the promise of the Father that he had made to them. "Because, really - he assured the Master - John baptized with water but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence." They then asked, "Lord, restore you, at this time, the kingdom to Israel? "He replied:" Not yours to know times or seasons which the Father has fixed by His own power. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. " When the Lord said this, they saw that the Master was taken up, and a cloud received by hiding it in his eyes. Since the apostles were gazing intently into the sky as he went, behold, stood beside them two men dressed in white, who told them: "Men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This Jesus, who among you was received up into heaven, shall so come as to the sky you saw him go. " (Acts 1:3 to 1:11.)

3. The apostles and Mary meet in the Upper Room - The disciples went back, then to Jerusalem, coming down the hill called the Mount of Olives, which lies about half a mile from Jerusalem. Upon entering the city they went upstairs of the house, which used to be. (Editor's note: According to ancient tradition, it is the upper room where Jesus had celebrated the Last Supper.) Ali were the eleven apostles and all prayed constantly in the closest union with some women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and the brothers him. In those days Peter stood up among the brethren, whose assembly consisted of about one hundred and twenty people, and told them: "Brothers! It was necessary to fulfill what the Holy Spirit had spoken by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became guide to those who arrested Jesus. Was he one of ours, because he had been chosen to participate in our ministry. This guy bought a field with the wages of his crime, and there threw himself upside down, busted up the middle and it flowed all the insides. The entire population of Jerusalem heard about this, so much so that that land was called in their language of Haceldama, which means 'field of blood'. Thus it is written in the Book of Psalms: 'Stay deserted their homes, and nobody wants to live there,' and: 'What else receive your job'. We must, therefore, that one of those men who accompanied us throughout the time when Jesus was among us and in front of us, from the baptism of John until the day he was taken from us, become a witness with us of his resurrection ". (Acts, 1:12 to 1:22.)

4. A growing number of followers of Christ, and they get to live in community - After hearing the words of Peter, the disciples felt heartbroken and asked the apostle Peter and his companions: "Brothers, what shall we do?" Peter said to them "Repent, and each piece baptism in the name of Jesus Christ to receive forgiveness of sins. So, receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise was made for you and your children as well as for everyone - so many - who are far from you, that God will call. " "Save yourselves from this lost generation." Those who accepted Peter's word were baptized, and joined that day about three thousand people. All remained constant in the apostles' teaching, fellowship, the ceremony of breaking bread and prayers. Fear took hold of everyone and many wonders and miracles were performed by the apostles. The faithful all lived together and had everything in common. They sold their possessions and goods, dividing everything between everybody, as needed for each. Every day they gathered at the temple and praised God and were esteemed by the whole people. And every day the Lord added to their number of followers with other people who were being saved. (Acts, 2:37 to 2:47.)

5. The apostles ask God to give them the power to heal the sick - After imprisoned and finally released, Peter and John went their and told them all that the chief priests and elders had told them. Knowing this, they lauded God, praying: "Lord, you are the creator of heaven, earth, sea and all that is in them! You said the Holy Spirit and the mouth of our father and thy servant David, 'Why were furious nations and peoples devised nonsense? The kings of the earth and revolted against the rulers allied with the Lord and against his Messiah! "In fact, this city, Herod and Pilate allied themselves with the pagans and the people of Israel against thy holy child Jesus, that you were anointed to do whatever your power and your will had decided beforehand should happen. And now, Lord, pay attention to their threats, and help your servers to boldly proclaim your word. At the same time, extend your hand to be performing healings, miracles and great wonders in the name of thy holy 'servant' Jesus. " When finished doing the prayer, the place where they were meeting was shaken and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to boldly proclaim the word of God. (Acts, 4:23 to 4:31.)

Answers to questions

1. As the book of Acts, how many days Jesus remained with his disciples after the resurrection?

Jesus was manifested to them after the crucifixion for forty days. (Acts 1:1 to 1:3.)

2. Peter and his companions chose a new student to fill the seat left by Judas Iscariot. What is your name and how was he chosen?

Names were proposed two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. They then prayed saying, O Lord, who knowest the hearts of all, shows us what these two chose to take this ministry and apostleship Judas' place that astray. They cast lots and the lot fell on Matthias, who was with the eleven apostles. (Acts, 1:23 to 1:26.)

3. That incident occurred on the day of Pentecost?

On the day of Pentecost were all together in one place, when suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages. When this sound occurred, were gathered a crowd, which was confusing, because each one heard them speaking in their own language. They were all amazed and marveled, saying one to another: What! Galileans are not all these who are speaking? How, do we hear, each in our own language wherein we were born? Parthians and Medes and Elamites and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt and parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians, we have heard speak in our tongues the mighty works of God. (Acts 2:1 to 2:13.)

4. In a rare moment of lucidity, Peter understood the meaning of those facts. What he said then, the companions gathered there?

While they were all amazed and were perplexed, saying to each other: What does this mean? Others mocking said, They are full of new wine, Peter, putting yourself standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and listen to my words. These are not drunken as you suppose, since the third hour of the day. But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: And in the last days, saith God, I pour out My Spirit on all flesh and your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams, and also the pour out my Spirit upon my servants and my handmaidens in those days, and they shall prophesy. I will show wonders in up in heaven and on earth beneath. (Acts, 2:14 to 2:36.)

5. A lame from birth was healed by Peter at the temple gate. As Peter healed him? Who was with him? What impact has this episode?

Cure was thus: The lame asked to receive alms. Peter, who was with John, told him: Look at us. He added: I have no silver or gold, but what I have given I thee. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, arise and walk. And he took him by the right hand, lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankles became strong. And leap, he sprang to his feet, walked and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God, before all the people who saw him walking and praising God. Clinging to the lame to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them stunned in the porch called Solomon. When Peter saw it, told people: "Men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? Why are ye so earnestly on us, as if by our own power or holiness we had made him walk? The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified his son Jesus, whom you delivered and before the face of Pilate denied, he had determined to release him. But you denied the Holy and Righteous, and that if you asked you a murderer. And killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses. Shortly after, while he was talking to the people, the priests, the captain of the temple and the Sadducees, and they seized them and put them in jail until the next day because it was too late. (Acts 3:1 to 3:26, 4:1 to 4:23.)
