The art of renewing hopes

Politics can be defined as the art of renewing hopes when it is used to promote general well being. 

This could be observed during the last Brazilian presidential campaign, which finished in October. It did not matter who the favourite was, the truth is that people voted with the conviction that the country cannot go backwards, but rather consolidate the gains of recent years. 

The elections have the power to renew our hopes, until we have the chance to make a new choice. 

Even if we do not belong to any political party, we should be aware of the government issues. We have the possibility to build a better country, where people would have better access to health, education, security and employment. 

Nobody ignores how much frustration and suffering an incapable government can bring to a nation. The Brazilian people have gone through this experience several times.

Of course we sometimes do not make the best choice when voting, but there is no other way to learn how to vote, unless voting. 

Our readers know that the Spiritist Doctrine explains the bodily existence, and we have to keep in mind that God has created it for a serious purpose. We should not forget about the educational purpose of reincarnation. 

We are travellers in this world. We should put all of our efforts into the objective to build here a more fraternal and fair civilization, but we cannot forget that, this civilization will not last unless the human beings become fair and fraternal themselves. 

Sometime ago, when we were undergoing a period of similar expectations which were later frustrated by a succession of mistakes, it came to our minds what the superior spirits have told about their understanding of a complete civilization. They said: “You will know it by its moral development. You will only have the right to call yourselves “civilised” when you have banished from your societies the vices that dishonour it, and when you live among yourselves like brothers, practising Christian charity. Until then you are merely enlighten nations, having traversed only the first phase of civilisation”. (Item 793 of the Spirit’s Book) 

The task of building a civilization, according to the parameters established by the Spiritism, is far superior to the possibilities of political parties, since it requires a great effort and the cooperation of all religions, which need to have Jesus as guide. Let’s leave to politics the task of renewing hopes. Our task is to make them tangible and concrete in this giant country that, according to Humberto de Campos (Spirit), was chosen by Jesus as the homeland of the Gospel.
