Text for Reading

65. False Christs and false prophets - Jesus, referring to those days of great tribulation, warns that false Christs and false prophets, who shall show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. "Then if anyone says to you, Behold, here is Christ, or there will not believe ye," he advises, adding, "For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so shall also the coming of the Son of man. Wheresoever the carcase is, there the eagles be gathered together. Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun darkened and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of heaven shall be shaken. Then appear in the sky the sign of the Son of man, and all the tribes of the earth mourn, and see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one to the other end of heaven." (Matthew 24:22 to 24:31.)

66. Only the Father knows when that day will come, says Jesus - Concluding his description of the end times, Jesus was emphatic: "Heaven and earth will pass away but my words shall not pass away. But of that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, but my Father only And as the days of Noah, so shall also the coming of the Son of man. For as in the days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark, And knew not until the flood came and took them all, so shall also the coming of the Son of man." (Matthew, 24:35 a 24:39.)

67. The parable of the dishonest steward - Jesus recommends that we should all be vigilant and said: "Then two men in the field, will be taken, and the other left, being two in the grinding mill, shall be taken, and the other left. Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But understand this: if the householder had known in what watch of the night the thief was coming, and not have to undermine your home. Therefore be ye also ready: for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when ye think not. Who then is the faithful and wise servant, the Lord has set over his household, to give them food in due season? Blessed is that servant whom his Lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Verily I say that the will of all his goods. But if that evil servant says to himself: My Lord will come later, and begin to beat their teammates, and to eat and drink with drunkards, the lord of that servant will come a day when he is not looking, and the time that he know, and will separate him and his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." (Matthew, 24:40 a 24:51.)

68. Charity is the only condition of salvation - Chapter 25 of Matthew's Gospel presents us with three remarkable parables: the parable of the ten virgins, the parable of the talents and the parable of the goats and sheep. The first, according to Cairbar Schutel, teaches aspiring to the Kingdom of Heaven to the need of education, cultivating the spirit of the exercise of intelligence and reason, to achieve the supreme knowledge. The bridesmaids symbolize those who read, study, experiment, investigate, reason, and seeking to understand the life, work for their own improvement. The parable of the talents, according Schutel, shows us that there are no privileges or exclusions in the Lord's work, that no single individual in the world who is not a trustee of one or more talents, and that we will all be charged by the application that we give given talents. In the third parable, probably the most important of all contained in the Gospel, the Lord does not consider charity as a condition for salvation, but as a unique condition, as Kardec notes on chap. XV, section 3, from The Gospel According to Spiritism. (Matthew, 25:1 a 25:46.)

69. Caiaphas and his cohorts decide to arrest and kill Jesus - When Jesus finished all these sayings, he said to his disciples: "Ye know that the Passover is two days, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified." Said and done. The chief priests, the scribes and the elders gathered in the hall of the high priest Caiaphas, and consulted that they might take Jesus by deceit, and kill him. But they said, Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar among the people.  (Matthew, 26:1 a 26:5.)

70. "The poor will always have," said Jesus - The Lord was in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, when a woman approached him with an alabaster box containing a large amount of ointment, she poured over his head. Jesus at that time, was seated at the table. His disciples saw it, were indignant, saying, "Why this waste? For this ointment might have been sold for much, and give the money to the poor. But Jesus rebuked them, saying, "Why trouble ye the woman? she hath wrought a good work upon me. Because the poor always ye have with you, but me ye have not always. That she hath poured this ointment on my body, did it prepare me for my burial. " He concluded: "Verily I say unto you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, will also be referred to what she did to her memory." (RN: John tells the same fact and says the woman is Mary, sister of Martha and Lazarus, and adds that it was not Judas Iscariot who disapproved of the generous gesture of the woman.) (Matthew, 26:6 a 26:13.)

 Answers to questions

1. Jesus wanted to teach the parable of the ten virgins?

The parable refers to ten virgins who went forth to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were wise, five, crazy. The latter, by taking their lamps, did not lead with it the fuel needed, the wise, yes. It happens that the husband was quick to arrive and they fell asleep and their lamps went out. As the rash did not have oil to light their lamps, they had to go out to buy it. That's when the bridegroom came and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding, closing the door. Some time later came the reckless and virgins, slamming the door, they asked, 'Lord, Lord, open to us. But he said he would not know. At the conclusion of the tale, Jesus warned: Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh, teaching that we must always be prepared because at any moment may sound the hour at which we should give our testimony, is facing a difficult test, either before returning to our own spiritual life. (Matthew, 25:1 a 25:13.)

2. And that means that contains the familiar parable of the talents?

The parable of the talents says that a man, from out of their land, called his servants, and delivered unto them his goods. The one he gave five talents, to another two, and another one, to each according to his ability, and disappeared right away. Having him gone, who received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents. And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. But he who received one talent went and dug into the ground and hid his master's money. Long after the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them. Then came up that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, you delivered to me five talents: behold, another five talents have gained beside them. His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful. About the faithful were little, you put on quite enter into the joy of thy lord. Arriving after he had received two talents came and said: Lord, you delivered to me two talents: behold I have gained two other talents. He told her his master: Well done, good and faithful servant. About the faithful were little, you put on quite enter into the joy of thy lord. "He also that had received one talent and said, Lord, I knew you know you're a hard man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you did not scatter, so frightened, hid your talent in the land; here hast that is thine. Responding, his lord said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant knew that I reap where I did not sow and gather where I scattered no? You should then have given my money to the bankers, and when I would have received mine own with usury. And determined to his servants: Take away therefore the talent, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. For to everyone who has will be given, and he shall have abundance: but whosoever has not even what he has you will be taken.

But the parable, quite clear, is that we are always evaluated by what we do of the talents, resources, opportunities we receive in every existence. The server shows that diligent, dedicated, selfless receive greater responsibilities in future and also the resources needed to comply with them. With the server negligent, lazy, irresponsible to give will be the opposite and everything in the future, you always seem much more difficult and painful. (Matthew, 25:14 a 25:30.)

3. The parable of the Final Judgement, also known as the parable of the goats and sheep, says one reason in particular. That tells us the parable and that virtue is that?

The parable says that when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory, and all nations will be gathered before him, and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He put then the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. Then he will say to those on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you since the foundation of the world because I was hungry, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty and you gave me drink: I was a stranger and ye took me in, naked and you clothed me, sick and you visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then the righteous will answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, and you have to eat? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? and when did we see You a stranger and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? and when did we see you sick or in prison, and came unto thee? The Lord then ask: "Verily I say unto you, when you did it to one of these my brethren, you did for me. Then he will say to those on his left, Depart from me, ye cursed, because I was hungry and you gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, did not take me, naked, did not clothe me, and sick and in prison, not to me. Then they also answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? The Lord then answer them, saying, Verily I say that when one of these little ones you did not, not what you did to me. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous to eternal life.

The result highlights that the parable is charity in its two facets well known: charity charity moral and material. The actions mentioned in the parable are all a legitimate social assistance program that true Christians could never ignore. (Matthew, 25:31 a 25:46.)

4. As the high priest was called in whose room it was decided the death of Jesus?

Caiaphas was his name. (Matthew, 26:3 a 26:5.)

5. Moments before the arrest of Jesus, a curious fact which annoyed his disciples was in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper. That fact was that?

Jesus approached a woman with an alabaster ointment containing a large amount, and poured it over his head as he sat at the table. His disciples saw it, became indignant, saying, "Why this waste? And if justified by saying that the ointment could be sold at a great price and give the money to the poor. But Jesus said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. Because the poor always ye have with you, but me ye have not always. That she hath poured this ointment on my body, did it prepare me for my burial. Verily I say unto you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, will also be referred to what she did to her memory. (Matthew, 26:5 a 26:11.)
