The right of the sick
to be a mother

Some time ago the newspaper of the North American Medical-Association revealed the story of a woman who delivered a healthy girl, free from Alzheimer’s disease. The kid, though, will probably see her mom getting sick and eventually die, probably before her 10s.

Professional geneticist, the mother had perfect sense of what the disease would bring to her brain and family. Her father disincarnated at age 42; her sister started getting down at 38 and passed away five years later; her brother noticed his memory wasn’t good at 35.

At age 33, she knew she could deliver a healthy baby. She just needed to choose the good gens in the ovum selection and, proceeding like this, the doctors would be able to implant in her uterus embryos free from this disease, with the so-called in vitro fertilization. The experience was a success.

Once the news was spread, an intriguing question was raised: “Is it right the woman who gets pregnant even if sure that her kid won’t be able to see much of her?”

For many, such as Nancy Gibbs, in article published in Time magazine, the case is more ethical than scientific.

According to Spiritism, which revealed us clearly the importance of the reincarnation process, the pregnancy should never be blamed. The coming of a kid to this world, in those times when no one wants kids, this is something to be applauded. Besides, if our Father lets that kids be born in experiences of this kind, it’s because the fact doesn’t make nature suffer, and quite to the contrary, helps her rest.

Allan Kardec didn’t treat; obviously, about the subject, as well as he didn’t about transplants. We can, however, say that the High Spirits, totally contrary to abortion, euthanasia and death penalty, are not contrary to life and this remarkable tool of progress that is the reincarnation process.

As we know, incarnation is indispensable to one’s development, and not always got of punishments, as Roustainguism’s followers would say.

As it’s clearly stated in question 132 of the Spirits’ Book, the Spirit is thus made to contribute his quota towards the general weal, while achieving his own advancement.
