Letter to the reader

Year 17 - 818 - April 9, 2023

There is no Spiritism without Kardec and his method!

The quote above is from our interviewee, Denizard Lopes Augusto de Souza, from Brasília (DF). He was born in Recife (PE), he graduated in Psychology and Social Sciences, with a master's degree in Sociology from the Federal University of Pernambuco, and works professionally as a professor and clinical psychologist. In spiritist endeavors, he participates in the Spiritist Communion in Brasilia, where he collaborates as a speaker. The interview is one of the highlights of this issue.

Another highlight is the Special by Paulo Neto, from Belo Horizonte (MG), “Ectoplasm in the works of codification”. In the article he says that the term ectoplasm would have appeared, as far as is known, in the year 1894 and its creator, according to some, was the French physician Charles Richet, awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology in 1913 and founder, years later, of a new science, Metapsychics.

This week marks another anniversary of the death of the English chemist and physicist William Crookes, which took place on April 4, 1919. A member of the London Academy of Sciences, Crookes dedicated himself to the investigation of spiritist phenomena, and his research in the years from 1870 to 1874 constitute one of the most significant incidents in the history of Spiritism, as Thiago Bernardes shows us in this issue.
