The Horse and the Well

Once upon a time there was a humble farmer who took care of his farm and his animals with great dedication.

One day, his son came to call him, very worried because one of the horses had fallen into a dry and abandoned well.

The farmer ran to the well to assess the situation. He was relieved when he saw that the horse was not hurt by the fall.

- Dad, what are we going to do? We won't be able to save the horse, the well is too deep!

- Calm down, my son, there is a solution for everything. Go get the shovels, we have a lot of work to do.

The boy brought the shovels as he was asked, but he didn't understand when his father started throwing dirt into the well.

- Dad, what are you doing? I thought we were going to try to save the horse! - said the worried boy.

- Be patient, my son. You will see!

Together, father and son gradually threw dirt into the well. The boy was distressed without understanding why they were doing that. But he had a good surprise when he saw that the horse was moving and was already very close to the edge of the well.

- He'll be able to get out! - the boy shouted with joy. - But, father, how is this possible?

- We threw the soil into the well slowly – explained the father –- the horse had time to shake off the dirt that fell on top of him and use his strong legs to make the ground firm. Little by little, the bottom of the well filled with dirt, until it was shallow enough for him to climb out!

The horse left the well calmly and then went for a walk. The father thanked his son for his help and said:

- Even when we are faced with a very difficult situation, we need to see it as something that will help us move forward, like the soil helped the horse. Furthermore, this accident brought us one good thing: we filled the pit with soil and now no one will fall in there!

This is how, with faith, patience, and hard work, we can make the best of a difficulty.
