Letter to the reader

Year 14 - 703 - January 10, 2021

Before God, men and women are equal and have the same rights

Throughout history, women have always been dominated by men and their rights have been very limited. Thus begins the special “Equality of the rights of men and women”, by José Passini, member of the Editorial Board of this magazine, now based in Juiz de Fora (MG). According to him, it was Allan Kardec, through The Spirits' Book, the first voice that stood up in defense of women's rights in the Christian milieu, making it clear that, as stated in question 817 of the aforementioned work, man and woman are equal before God and have the same rights. The article is one of the highlights of this edition.

Another highlight is the interview given to us by Professor Izaura de Azevedo Hart, from Petrópolis (RJ). Born in Santo Aleixo, district of Magé (RJ), our interviewee developed a long career in the field of education as a teacher and school principal, until she retired as Director of the Department of Education in Petrópolis (RJ). A childhood spiritist, she participates in the activities of the Petrópolis Municipal Spiritist Union, in which she heads the Department of Doctrinal Subjects.

In February 1864, the same year that, months later, the first version of The Gospel according to Spiritism was launched, Allan Kardec published in the Spiritist Magazine a precious text pertinent to the education of children. The article was entitled “First moral lessons from childhood”, as shown by a special article written by Ana Moraes that deserves to be read and meditated by all of us and, in particular, by the people who deal directly with children.
