It has to be saved the Audio Library Salt & Light

The reader will
remember the 195th article published in this magazine about the work done 25 years ago by Audio Library Salt & Light, a nonprofit philanthropic institution located in Rio de Janeiro, whose goal is - to produce audio books - allow the visually impaired can also enjoy the treasure that the books bring us.

The institution
runs, however, an imminent risk to see its doors closed, a fact that may have already occurred even before the text being read.

The reason for the sad news is the non-renewal of the partnership that the audio library has been maintaining for some time with the Secretariat of Social Assistance and Human Rights of the State Government of Rio de Janeiro, plus the lack of interest by those who currently heads the city and State of Rio.

According to the information that reached us, the institution has been trying since late 2010 to find new partners, donors, partners who help in this fight, but the support has occurred in isolation on the part of some people who believe in the work, but whose result is below the needs of the institution.

This support is to highlight the work of the media, who became interested in the cause and has shown to the public the difficulties of the institution. The voluntary and isolated donations, unfortunately, have not been enough so that the work has continued, showing that the issue of accessibility and the problem of social inclusion do not interest many people, especially those that invested in power, do not turn into actions what we often use in their campaign speeches.

The fact - it's good to say - shows the inversion of values that characterizes the political activity in our country, in which one decides to spend billions because of a handful of soccer matches, while schools and activities to the really important human creature is left aside as marginal services that have no importance.

How we should never lose hope, soar for sensible people who drive Rio de Janeiro, wake up and not allow this so serious and important work being lost, thus damaging a large portion of that depends on initiatives like this to enjoy what it costs nothing to the others.

If you, dear reader, are interested in helping Audio Library Salt & Light, contact the institution or deposit your contribution in the Itaú Bank, account number 37593-3, branch 0313, or Santander Bank, account number 130007618, branch 3399.

Until June 30th, the institution would be attending and reporting on developments through phone 2233-8007 or 1st March Street, 125 - room 701, Center, in Rio de Janeiro, CEP 20010-000. After that date, the only way to contact the institution will be via the Internet, by e-mail audioteca@audioteca.org.br

We are confident that with the support of all the Audio Library Salt & Light will overcome the difficulties and will continue the task for which it was created.
