The Spirit’s Book

Allan Kardec

(Part 5)

We continue the methodical study of the Pentateuch Kardec, which focuses on the five major works of the spiritual doctrine, in the order they were first published by Allan Kardec, the Encoder of Spiritualism.

The answers to the questions presented, founded in the 2th edition published by FEB, based on translation of Anna Blackwell, are at the end of the text below.

Questions for discussion

A. When the earth began to be settled and where they came from living creatures to inhabit it?

B. It is true that Adam was the first man to inhabit the earth?

C. Are inhabited all the globes that move in infinite space?

D. If matter how organic and inorganic bodies is always the same, why the bodies have organic life and the inorganic don't have?

Text for reading

45. Living things appeared on earth as follows: the planet containing his germs, waiting for the opportune moment to develop. The seeds remained dormant and inert, like the chrysalis and the seed plants, yet conducive to the emergence of each species, so the beings of every kind gathered and multiplied. (L.E., 44)

46. The organic elements, before the Earth formed, were, so to speak, in a fluid state in the space between the spirits, or in other worlds, awaiting the creation of Earth to begin a new life on a new globe. (L.E., 45)

47. The human species are also found among the organic elements of the globe, it was this that gave reason to say that man was made in the slime of the earth. (L.E., 47)

48. The physical and moral differences that distinguish the many ethnic groups on Earth come from the climate, life and habits. (L.E., 52)

49. The physical constitution of the different globes are not the same, they absolutely do not resemble. (L.E., 56)

50. Not identical to the physical constitution of the worlds, beings that inhabit them have different organization, just as among us, fish are made to live in the water and birds in the air. (L.E., 57)

51. Science, far from lessening the divine work, in her shows in a more grandiose and more in keeping with the notions that we have the power and majesty of God, by the very fact of having done it without derogating from the laws of nature. (L.E., 59)

52. Under this point, with Moses, Science puts man last in order of creation of living beings. (L.E., 59)

53. Religious ideas, far from losing, magnify themselves when marching to Science, this is not the only way to make skepticism a vulnerable side. (L.E., 59)

54. The force, the law of attraction, which binds the material elements in organic and inorganic bodies, is the same. (L.E., 60)

55. The vital principle which gives life to the beings that absorb and assimilate, is the universal fluid source, fluid is what you call magnetic or electric fluid animalised. He is the intermediary, the bond between spirit and matter. (L.E., 65)

Answers to questions

A. When the earth began to be settled and where they came from living creatures to inhabit it?

In the beginning all was chaos on the globe, the elements were in confusion, but little by little each thing took place. It was then that living things appeared appropriate for the state of the planet, they contained the germs. They waited for the opportune moment to develop. Until that occurred, remained in a latent state of inertia, as the chrysalis and the seeds of plants. (The Spirit's Book, questions 43, 44 and 45.)

B. It is true that Adam was the first man to inhabit the earth?

No. That which we call Adam was not the first nor the only one to inhabit the earth. Having lived in this world some 4,000 years before Christ, the man, whose tradition has been preserved under the name Adam, was among those who survived in a certain region, some of the great cataclysms that revolved several times the surface of the globe, and formed a trunk of people who currently inhabit. In fact, the man appeared in many places around the globe and at different times, which also constitutes one of the causes of the diversity of ethnicities. Then dispersing men for different climates and allying himself to one of the other ethnic groups, new types were formed. (Work cited, questions 47, 48, 50, 51, 52, 53 and 53-A.)

C. Are inhabited all the globes that move in infinite space?

Yes. Man is far from land, as many assume, the first intelligence, in goodness and perfection. God filled the living beings all worlds. And they all compete for the ultimate goal of Providence. Believing that there are only people on earth would doubt the wisdom of God, who has not done anything useless. (Work cited, questions 55, 56 and 57.)

D. If matter how organic and inorganic bodies is always the same, why the bodies have organic life and the inorganic don't have?

The cause of the existence of life in union bodies comes from organic matter that forms the vital principle. Life is an effect due to the action of an agent on the matter. This agent, without matter, is not life, just as matter cannot live without this agent. He gives life to all beings that absorb and assimilate. (Work cited, questions 62, 63, 65, 66, 67 and 70.)
