The Spiritist Week of Londrina and its Purpose

It began yesterday the Spiritist week of Londrina, an event that started in July 1992 and has now reached its 19th edition. Over the years it has became the most important achievement of the spiritist movement in the north of Parana.

The proposal of the Spiritist Week matches with the ideas of our confrere Pedo Francisco dos Santos Neto, from Pernambuco,  as per the interview he has conceded to this magazine, which is one of the highlights of this edition. 

As our confrere Pedro says, everybody can help to disseminate the spiritist doctrine. 

The leaders of the Spiritist Centre “Nosso Lar” (Our Home or The Astral City) have initiated the spiritist week of Londrina over 18 years ago and it has brought something entirely new to southern states of Brazil, where the spiritist week model had not so far penetrated. 

There are inumerous people who had their first contact with the Spiritist Doctrine through to this event, one of the few that can lead people to a Spiritist Centre. People have attended the event to learn more about Spiritism and not only to receive the benefits of the the magnectic healing therapy (imposing the hands). 

During this event, which has began yesterday, there will be lectures, seminars, cultural evening and activities for youngsters and children, free of charge, as it should always be the doctrinal activities undertaken by the Spiritist Centres. (1) 

A Spiritist week, however, is not just that. It has a more important meaning because it promotes reconciliation and fraternity between the spiritists, the union of Spiritist Centres and as a consequence the strengthening of the Spiritist movement itself and of the entity - the Union of Spiritist Societies of Londrina (USEL) - which since July 1993 has been responsible, with many sacrifices, for holding this event. 

By making this comment, we urge the spiritist population of Londrina and its vicinities to participate with enthusiasm in the eight days of activities, realising that the Spiritist Week is a time of integration and participation, and not a holiday period, as it is unfortunately seen by some spiritist centre leaders and its workers. 

The success of the event and its continuation for years to come rely heavily on our participation. After all, there are so few big events planned for our town that it is not understandable that we could refuse what is offered graciously by the Union of Spiritist Societies of Londrina with the support of the institutions that belong to it.
