Antonio Coelho Filho:

“It’s very important we all work to divulge the Spiritist message”

He is responsible for the production of a programme called Transição, which is presented every Sunday afternoon at Rede TV. Here he explains how this came to life and what the
programme’s objectives are

The TV programme, which goes on air by Rede TV, presents interviews with several speakers from the spiritist movement every Sunday from 3:15pm BRST Brasilia Time. This programme is being aired for over a year now and has reached a vast audience in Brazil. Our week’s interviewee, Antonio Coelho Filho (picture), has been spiritist for more than 15 years. He is from Santo André (SP), where he still lives nowadays. He is the one responsible for producing the programme.

He is the Vice-President of the institution Fraternidade Francisco de Assis. This is located at  Vila  Prudente,  São  Paulo. He

also manages Fraternidade Irmã Amélia, which is a nursery that works with 125 children.

In the following interview, he talks about the programme and how this came to reality.

O Consolador: When did the programme Transição become reality? How was this possible?

Fraternidade Francisco de Assis used to produce until the beginning of 2008 a programme which was presented by the open TV in São Paulo, Brazil. Soon later one person who helps financially this project got a psycho graphed message in June 2008 asking him to continue supporting the disclosure of the Doctrine. This person came to us to discuss how this could be done, and in October 2008 the programme Transição was aired by Rede TV.

O Consolador: What is the weekly audience of the programme?

After 15 months we are extremely happy with the results achieved. From the religious programmes presented by the Brazilian TV, Transição is one of the only ones to achieve audience according to IBOPE (Brazilian Institute of Public Opinion and Statistics - in Portuguese, Instituto Brasileiro de Opinião Pública e Estatística)

O Consolador: What are the criteria used to come up with the programme?

We have received help from several Spiritist lecturers to take the Spiritist message to the general public. Our programmers are recorded and edited in São Paulo, Brazil.

O Consolador: What would you say is your audience throughout Brazil?

We received a very high number of emails weekly from all around Brazil. After some programmes, we receive around 500 between Sunday and Monday. Most of the e-mails come from spiritists but there are also a lot of followers who are non-spiritists. They have been congratulating the interviewees for their clear approach to the topics discussed.

O Consolador: Have you received complains about the programme as well?

We have received some complains from other religions, but mainly on topics related to the Bible. We noticed that we are receiving less and less complains every week.

O Consolador: Would you say it’s hard to maintain it financially?

As you may know, the costs for maintaining a programme at open TV in Brazil are still quite high. Some people who watch the show have requested we expand our programmes so that more people would be able to get to know more about Spiritism, but we can’t afford it at present. We are thinking of expanding our programmes in 2010, but we need more help to be able to do that. The previous editions of the programme Transição are now available at www.programatransicao.tv.br

O Consolador: What is the connection between the programme and the institution Fraternidade Francisco de Assis?

The people involved with producing the programme Transição are part of Fraternidade Francisco de Assis. We started a project at this institution with the main goal to disclose the Spiritist Doctrine. We are recording lecturers that are taking place at the institution and making them available through our site www.fraternidadeassis.com.br. They will soon be transmitted by TV MUNDO MAIOR.

O Consolador: Can you please give us your final words?

If we consider Spiritism to be the promised Consoler, it’s important we all work to disclose this message. It needs to become known by as many people as possible. We would like to wish peace to us all.
