An experience of assistance
to chemical dependents
and their families

Many of the problems faced by Humankind are related to parent’s failures while they ignore how important the mission assigned by God to them is and which damages its failure may cause, as emphasized by this week’s editorial, entitled“Raising the kids isn’t enough; it’s necessary to educate them”.

The subject is also analyzed during the interview conceded by the psychiatrist Edson Luís dos Santos Cardoso to our collaborator and editor Antonio Augusto Nascimento. “When the relationship with parents fails, a child can’t trust anyone else anymore”, affirms the doctor and confrere who administers the group Fraternal Support of the Spiritist Group Harvest of the Master, from Santo Ângelo (state of Rio Grande do Sul).

Since 2002, the Group has been performing an important work of assistance to families facing chemical dependency and its consequences, having a methodology based on the Spiritist Doctrine. The model applied in this work is supported by the Spiritist Hospital of Porto Alegre and has already been adopted by various Spiritist institutions in both Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina states. The interview is one of the highlights in this edition.

Another highlight this week is the special report “Lessons of a missionary”, written by the confrere Ricardo Baesso de Oliveira, from Juiz de Fora (state of Minas Gerais), in which he focus on the extraordinary work of Dom Hélder Câmara, who would celebrate 100 years of physical existence in 2009 if he was still incarnated among us.

On 14th November 1849, 160 years ago, Spiritists had their first meeting in the Corinthian Hall, the largest auditorium available in Rochester. The audience, says Conan Doyle, heard with attention the exposition made by the key speaker, Mr. Capron, from Auburn. It was then that the famous sisters Fox performed the first public demonstrations of their mediumistic faculties, as shows the special report that integrates this edition, being also a highlight this week.
