Adam and his role on
Earth’s peopling

 
 
In the special report published in this edition, which examines the idea of Creationism, Paulo da Silva Neto Sobrinho says with property that religious people that stick to the biblical text, without giving up of the belief that Adam and Eve were the first human couple, put themselves before something that they don’t know how to explain, such as the fact that Cain found the woman that would be his wife and married her, after having killed Abel. 

But this isn’t the only difficulty imposed by Creationism, a series of ideas that Spiritism obviously doesn’t accept, teaching us that the human species didn’t start with only one individual and that one who we call Adam wasn’t the first to people the Earth. When did Adam live? – “More or less at the time assigned to him - about 4,000 years before Christ”, says the superior Spirits, as we can read on question number 51 of The Spirit’s Book. 

The information above, which is a common sense among religious people, also finds support in the biblical narrative, since it was only in the Neolithic Period – between 5,000 and 2,500 before Christ – that the shepherds appeared on Earth, followed by the soil cultivation, when humans evolved from hunters to shepherds.

So, if Cain used to cultivate the soil and his brother Adam was a shepherd, as the Genesis tells, the date indicated by Spirits regarding the epoch in which Adam lived matches the historical records, that is, the couple lived during the Neolithic time.

It happens that the Earth’s peopling started in remote epoches, as the successive archeological discoveries indicate, showing that our ancestors lived far before Adam and Eve.

Just to mention an example, it’s worth recalling that scientists from Emory and Stanford Universities, both located in North America, published the results from an unique research run on DNA mutations in early 2000.

The results found by Douglas Wallace and his colleagues confirmed that the first Homo sapiens, originated from Africa, arrived in Europe between 40,000 and 50,000 years ago, date endorsed by chemical analyses performed against various fossils found in the Old Continent.

Science endorsed with data of this caliber, which the superior Spirits had already presented more than 150 years ago, that is, that the so-called Adamic race represents just one of the ramifications which originated the terrene civilization, but there were already other peoples prior to it, what explains the information regarding the families of Cain and his son, Enoch, first Adam’s grandson, according to biblical texts.
