Drugs and their
consequences

Central theme of the interview conceded by the confrere Valci Silva and one of the highlights in this issue, the subject “drugs”, despite its importance in the Brazilian reality, hasn’t been as discussed as it should be in the Spiritist Movement.

The consequences of using drugs are well-known and cause commotion every time that TV shows something about it, and then the classical question comes up: Is there any solution for such a problem?

Obviously, although the human problems are always complex, there are solutions for all of them. What varies from one difficulty to another is the time necessary to overcome it. And this specific case we discuss here requires time, good will and investiments, not only in terms of money, but also investments of love, attention, care – given we are dealing with human lives, creatures who can’t end up getting stuck in what Herculano Pires named as “vicious cycle of reincarnation”.

It’s worth recalling the thoughts of that notable confrere, which are stated in his book “Spiritist Pedagogy”.

The development of a human being, says Herculano, isn’t continuous, but discontinuous. In each existence on Earth, the individual develops certain potentialities, but the Law of Inercia tends to keep him in the same position, limited by the culture in which he has been raised. With the corporeal death, he returns to the spiritual world, where his perceptions are expanded, allowing him to understand that his perfectibilty doesn’t have limits. Returning to a new reincarnation, he can restart the development of his perfectibility with more effiency, but, if he doesn’t receive the necessary stimulus, he can end up getting stuck again in the same condition as he was in his previous existence on Earth, remaining in a repetitive stage. This is what the author called vicious cycle of reincarnation.

We know that there are needy adolescents and children in the suburbs of big cities, who, given their needs, become an easy target for drug dealers.

Thus, it’s necessary that these youngsters, as well as their families, have access to a worthy life, being able to aspire better days, thanks to studies and to the possibility of getting an honest job, which are supposed to be provided to them and their families by the society.

In a number of cities, there are many organizations that play their part in the task of getting the youth out of the streets and making them use the time for something positive. In the Spiritist circle, various institutions are dedicated to works of the same nature. But this effort will only be comprehensive when the ones who have chosen to spend their resources to buy and consume drugs become concious that their addiction is a mistake, it’s one type of suicide, it’s a wound that needs to be eradicated. For all this, it’s necessary a stronger engagement from the society as a whole and religious groups, that should unite their forces in order to cooperate for the treatment and cure of such an infirmity around the world, which also reflects in the spiritual plan, where desincarnated creatures perambulate calling for help, facing the same illness.
