The coordinator of the Spiritist Book Fair of
Campinas, that is in its fifth edition,
talks about this important Spiritist event

José Roberto Checchia was born in Campinas (SP), where he has been the director of Allan Kardec Spiritist Center since the 70’s.

The Allan Kardec Spiritist Center stages next Saturday, September 13, the 5th Spiritist Book Fair, that will comprise of book stands with 1,500 books offered up to 50% off, workshops and presentations with renowned lecturers, children activities, musical presentations and food court.

In the following interview, the confrere talks    about    the    success    obtained

spreading Spiritist books in the institution itself, which the Fair is one of the examples.

O Consolador: When was the Allan Kardec Spiritist Center founded?

The Center was founded by Gustavo Marcondes and Servilio Marrone on September 5, 1938. Therefore, it is celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2008.

O Consolador: What is the main goal of the Book Fair?

Besides selling books, the main objective is the meeting with confreres of other Spiritist Centers in Campinas and region, through workshops and lectures delivered by renowned speakers, usually authors themselves.

O Consolador: How many books are sold? Is there any sort of discount?

Despite being held in our Center for just one day, we sell about 3,500 books, with discounts ranging from 35% up to 50%.

O Consolador: Does the acquisition of books happen with discounts and deadlines? Can people return books after the event?

Yes, through discounts and more installments to pay. We also use our stock, and there is no return of books after the event.

O Consolador: Does the event also cover the other Spiritist Centers in the city and Greater Campinas?

Yes, because we advertise in Spiritist Centers of Campinas and surroundings, besides notes about the event in newspapers and radios.

O Consolador: During the event, many speakers switch rooms of the institution with lectures, while the event takes place in the main room. How are the topics defined?

Topics are defined by speakers themselves; we only interfere, when occurs repetition of topics.

O Consolador: What are the criteria for the choice of speakers?

The criteria adopted are according to the lectures delivered in the Spiritist movement and the availability for our Fair.

O Consolador: What are the best-sellers?

Besides the Standard Works, there is interest for books in general, since the books are exposed to be browsed, besides the orientation given by the volunteers who work in the stands.

O Consolador: How has the response been so far?

As good as it can get, through spreading and increasing the Spiritist movement. On the other hand, every year we look to solve the detected mistakes in the previous fair and enhance our advertisement.

O Consolador: The Allan Kardec Spiritist Center is also a publisher. Tell us about it.

Yes. There is the Allan Kardec Publishers. We have published 71 books and also 2 CDs and we have reedited other titles; until the end of the year we expect to have more 14 books in our stocks.

O Consolador: What is the main point in the publications?

Doctrinal purity is the main point of our Center. The published books have had a good response in the national Spiritist movement.
