Animal is not a toy

Joaquim was on his way home because he had gone to play at his friend's house.

When Joaquim turned the corner, he saw some boys running and laughing. He kept walking and approached the small group. Then he understood the reason for the fun.

They were laughing at a cat, which had his tail tangled up in a string with a piece of metal tied to it. When he walked, the metal scraped on the floor, made a noise and the cat got scared and ran away. The more he ran, the more noise came from behind him, and the cat got scared and ran even more.

The poor kitten only stopped when he got very tired, but as soon as he moved, everything started all over again.

The boys, mercilessly, just saw it as fun and ran after the little animal:

- What a silly cat! - Said one of them, laughing - Can't you see it's just a matter of standing still?

Joaquim was outraged when he saw that.

He was a shy boy and was embarrassed to have to face the other boys, especially since they were in a group and Joaquim alone. But even so he couldn't contain himself. Someone needed to help the cat. Then, boldly, he said:

- Stop it! Can't you see that the cat is scared and needs help?

- What is your problem with it? Is the cat yours? - Asked one of the boys.

- My problem with that is this should not be done. No one has the right to enjoy the suffering of others. Animals also feel pain and fear.

- We haven´t hurt him. Just having fun with the situation - said the boy.

- Animal is not a toy. You should find another way to have fun. You guys aren't hurting, but he's scared and tired. If you won't help, at least leave him alone for good!

The boys got silent. Deep down, they knew that Joaquim was right. Our conscience knows what is right and what is wrong, even when we insist on doing what we shouldn't.

The boys left. Only one remained. It was Felipe, who regretted after hearing Joaquim's words and wanted to help.

The two boys took a long time to be able to help the kitten. They needed to let him be alone, to calm down and rest. Afterwards, they calmly approached him and called for the kitten. Until the little animal trusted them, and the boys managed to unwind the thread that was tangled up in his tail.

When they did, the two boys celebrated happily. They even ended up becoming friends after that. Joaquim took the cat to his house. Gave him food and water. He pleased, gave affection, did everything he could to make him feel good.

The next day, Joaquim and his father took the kitten to an animal shelter. Later the kitten was adopted by a family with two girls who really wanted to have a new friend like him.

The kitten was very well cared for, respected, and loved from then on, as all animals deserve. After all, they were created by God, just like us and are our companions here on planet Earth.
