Mary of Nazareth: mother intercessor
with Jesus

This theme came to mind right after hearing from a religious the statement that Mary of Nazareth would be an intercessor with Jesus. This question aroused my interest in studying the life of Jesus' mother, considering the different sources of consultation for the construction of a research of what this statement would be like from a Spiritist perspective.

Having this in mind, the biblical passage that most characterizes Mary as an intercessor is the wedding at Cana, in which the Mother goes to her beloved Son asking Him to solve a difficult situation, because she knew that the Master could solve that issue. From this passage, the title of Mother intercessor appears.

Nothing better than starting with the Wedding at Cana:

“And on the third day, there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there. And Jesus and His disciples were also invited to the wedding. And, lacking wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him: they have no wine. Jesus said to her, Woman, what have I to do with you? (or what do you want from me, woman?) My time has not yet come. His mother said to the servants: do whatever He tells you. And six stone carvings were placed there for the purification of the Jews, and in each fitted two or three vases.

Jesus said to them, fill these water-pots with water. And they filled them up. And He said, take them out now, and take them to the ruler of the feast. And they took them. And as soon as the ruler of the feast tasted the water made of wine (not knowing where it came from, although the servants who had drawn the water knew it); the ruler of the feast called the husband, and said to him: every man serves the good wine first and, when they have drunk well, then the inferior one; but you have kept the good wine until now. Jesus thus began His signs at Cana in Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him. After this He went down to Capernaum, He, and His mother, and His brothers, and His disciples; and they stayed there not many days”. (John 2: 1-12)

The wedding at Cana gave way to Jesus' first miracle or natural phenomenon according to the law of God. However, this was not the time for the Son of God to reveal His power, as he knew it would be the beginning of His mission in God's plan until His passion on the cross.

Jesus' concern with the time set by God for His glorification meant spilling His blood in the name of an eternal Covenant, the same blood symbolized by the wine shared with His apostles at the last Supper, before His death, as the Master associated that moment to the day of His crucifixion.

In Cana, Mary realizes that the wine was running out, which could embarrass the bride and groom, as the main part of the party, wine, which symbolizes joy and abundance, would be lacking.

Mary says to Jesus: “They have no more wine”, because in her heart she knew that her son could help. Jesus' response was: “What do you want from me, woman? My time has not yet come”.

Jesus' words did not make Mary give up. Jesus loved her. Mary's intercession convinced Jesus to do what she asked. Jesus' first miracle occurred by the Mother's faith in her divine Son.

By making her son change His mind, Mary won a place in the hearts of Christians, as an intercessor, one who can ask Jesus to fulfill people's desires.

Regarding Mary as a lawyer and intercessor with Jesus, we highlight from the book “Universe and Life”, by the Aurelian Spirit:

“Jesus told the wife of Zebedee that only those to whom his Father had reserved these places would sit on His right and left, in the Kingdom of Heaven, because He knew that the Eternal One had already elected them- the great Baptist and the magnanimous Mary of Nazareth – the supreme ministries; the first one to govern, under His critical supervision, the planetary problems of Justice, and she to superintend, under His sovereign influence, the benevolences of love. For this reason, all decrees drawn up by the sublime Chancellor of Justice are only approved by Christ after being examined and instructed by the excellent Advocate of Humanity, so that the compassionate blessings of mercy and hope are never lacking in any process of pain”. (Golden, in Universe and Life.)

“Divine star of the universe of great Souls, she too had to wander from the paradise of excellence of her happiness to our valley of tears, in order to help and serve a humanity of very poor spirituality where she was made forever the great Mother, the great Lawyer and the great Protector”. (Golden, in Universe and Life.)

As for doing everything that Jesus guides us, in the book “The Path, Truth and Life”, by the Spirit Emmanuel, in the psychographics of Francisco Candido Xavier, in lesson 171 – Mother’s Words, we have:

"His mother said to the servants: do whatever He tells you." - (JOHN, chapter 2, verse 5.)

“(...) We also have, in the Sacred Document, reminiscences of Mary. Let us examine her precious words in Cana, full of wisdom and maternal love.

Generally, when children seek the loving intervention of a mother, they feel orphans of encouragement or in need of joy. For this reason, in all parts of the world, it is common to see children arguing with their parents and crying before maternal hearts.

Interpreted justly by a guardian angel of Christianity, it is sometimes with great afflictions that we turn to Mary. (...)

On many occasions, the wine of hope runs out. We feel exhausted, disillusioned ...We implore maternal tenderness and Mary answers us: do whatever He tells you. The counsel is wise and profound and was placed at the beginning of the works of salvation. Hearing such a Mother’s warning, let us think about whether we are really doing everything the Master has told us”. (EMMANUEL. Path, Truth and Life)

In the book “Memories of a Suicide”, Yvonne do Amaral Pereira relates the experiences of the Spirit Camilo Candido Botelho after committing an act against his own life and, consequently, the new dawn in the spiritual world.

Camilo reveals that Mary of Nazareth runs several relief organizations for the needy, including Mary of Nazareth’s Hospital and Mansion of Hope. In these institutions, under the influence and guidance of Mary, mother of Jesus, help is given, through the Legion of Servants of Mary, to those who voluntarily shorten their lives and therefore suffer atrocious pains in the spiritual world.

In Chapter 9, “The archives of the soul”, Camilo narrates that “the warnings and orders come from Most High ... from there, where the magnanimous assistance of the pious Mother of Humanity, the Governor of our Legion (...) if another eminent Spirit is asked to plead, it will be sent to Mary and the same steps will be followed, for, as we have seen, Mary is the sublime host of the reprobates who have thrown themselves into the fearful abyss of voluntary death.”

Further on, Camilo tells about the possible referral of an obsessing Spirit to the competent channels for an atoning reincarnation on a planet below Earth to pay off his debts. However, Camilo narrates that such a drastic measure would disgust charity and that all logical and legal resources should be exhausted to persuade repentance and regeneration, using great tenderness and piety.

Then he says: “Mary interceded for this unfortunate soul, together with her divine Son, while to us others recommended maximum patience, the most fruitful expression of charity and love that we are capable of, in order to be applied in her unfortunate case! Thus, as a prisoner, though, as you see, he receives without interruption all the moral, spiritual and even 'physical' assistance, if I may express myself, that his animalized and coarse nature requires”.

In Chapter 11, in “Again Jerome and Family”, Camilo talks about the touching moment of Angelus, greeting Maria, who is faithfully respected by her legionaries in the Spiritual Colony. On the solemn occasion of prayer, he said: “I prayed, this time, as I had never prayed before. I pleaded with the loving mother of our Redeemer for assistance and mercy for my children! May I intercede with Jesus our Lord, in order to benefit the unfortunate children abandoned by me to the inclement pitches of adversity!”

For all these narratives of the Spiritist literature, we verify the authority of Mary of Nazareth to intercede for us with her son Jesus, especially in times of great difficulties through our supplications, prayers that must be performed from the bottom of the heart, with great faith. and will, for the one who asks obtains, and at the door you knock it will be opened.
