New Year's Proposals


It was the last day of the year. Mariana was very happy with the party at her home, which brought the whole family together. Each one had brought a dish, and everyone shared the delicious dinner.

After the meal, the most awaited part for the children was the dessert time: Aunt Carol's chocolate trifle and Grandma Olga's French toast. Delicious! Everyone was fulfilled.

The house was full of conversation and laugh. The cousins ​​danced and ran around the house. Mariana's mother sang along with the radio and the girl, even being a little asleep, decided to wait until midnight to see the turn of the year.

- Mari, come and see the fireworks! - Called Aunt Jacy, excited.

The girl ran to the sidewalk and hugged her aunt to see the lights in the sky. At almost midnight, everyone gathered in the room and started a countdown: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Happy New Year!

The whole family embraced, wishing each other a happy year. Mariana hugged her mother first, then went to meet her father and suddenly felt her brother's arms, squeezing her with affection and saying:

- Happy New Year, Mari!

She also hugged her aunts, cousins, grandma and uncle Luiz.

After that, it didn't take long for everyone to say goodbye and Mariana, go to bed. She felt very well and, before going to sleep, said a sincere prayer:

“My God, thank you very much for the past year, and thank you for this new year. Remember that yesterday I asked that in the new year I got a cell phone and went on a trip? So, I still like these things, but I didn't realize that there are other things that make me very happy, in a different and very special way.

These are the things I had today. I wanted to ask that, in the new year, I can eat more of the delicious things that grandma does, and talk more with Aunt Jacy, who likes me a lot and who I like a lot too. I want to play a lot with my cousins, who are messy, but are very funny! And I want to hug my brother many times, instead of fighting with him, and always see my parents smiling and singing, just like today. I think that's what I really want, you know, my God?

I also want to be good to all these people. I love them very much, and they are very important to me. But that's my part, right? Just help me, please, always remember that!

Thank you! So be it!"

Mariana ended the prayer and slept happily, as her new year, for sure, had started very well.
