The little dog Cindy

In a small town lived a stray dog. She had no home, so she walked on the streets looking for food. She was very docile and used to answer back, wagging her tail, to those few pleasures she received from time to time.

Mr. Jose lived in the same city. One day, the dog passed in front of his store and stopped in front of the door. Mr. Jose looked at her lean body and her sad look, he felt pity and arranged some food for her.

After eating everything, she thanked Mr. Jose, wagging her tail with satisfaction, and continued her walk.

Next day, the puppy appeared again at Mr. Jose's door. Once again, he brought some food to her.

- Here, girl. I brought you water too - he said, offering a pot of fresh water.

Mr. Jose decided to adopt the puppy. He named her Cindy, and the two became very close. Cindy stayed with Mr. Jose while he was working at the store, and after closing the doors the two of them went home together.

One morning, after walking with Cindy to the store, Mr. Jose felt bad, weak and dizzy. He tried to hold himself, but passed out and fell on the floor, behind the counter.

Cindy was frightened. She licked his hand, trying to wake him up, but it didn’t help.

The store was already open, but without customers. There was no one around who could help. Cindy ran to the sidewalk and started to bark loudly. A man passing by noticed the dog's strange behavior. When she realized that she had caught the man's attention, she ran into the store and continued to bark.

The man stopped in front of the entrance without understanding what was happening with the little animal that came and went from behind the counter, still barking a lot. The man entered the store and went to the counter, curious to find out what disturbed the dog. It was then that he saw Mr. Jose unconscious on the floor.

The man quickly called an ambulance and gave as much assistance as he could. Soon the help arrived and Mr. Jose was attended. Mr. Jose woke up and, while recovering, was informed by the man, how Cindy had called for help.

The little dog had been beside Mr. Jose the entire time. He extended his hand to her and, patting Cindy's head, said:

- Thank you, Cindy. I thought you were the one who would always need my help.

Cindy did not understand Mr. Jose's words, but she felt his affection and wagged her tail, as she always did.

Mr. Jose, after that, had to do some tests. But he and Cindy lived well, together and happily, for many years.
