Learning to organize

 
Laura was looking forward to the weekend. It would be her friend Gabi's birthday party, and the two had planned to do a lot of fun things. But on Saturday morning, Gabi received a call from Laura, who was crying.

- Gabi, you don't know how upset I am. My parents scolded me! I forgot to feed my dog ​​yesterday, and he was hungry until today. I also left doing several things during the week. My mother said that I need to learn to organize myself and have more discipline. So, I will only be able to go to your party if I do all my duties.

- So, you still have a chance! - Said the friend, hopefully - It's just you do the tasks, isn't it?

- Yeah, but I'm not going to make it. It's a lot and I haven't done much yet - Laura replied sadly.

- Look, Laura, sometimes I also keep pushing to do things I don't like. So, my mom always makes a list of tasks for me. We will make a list for you. It will help you to keep focus.

Laura didn't quite believe that her friend's method would work. But she agreed to try and followed Gabi's directions:

- Put on paper everything you have to do, everything. Not just the main things. Put it on even to brush your teeth, put your shoes in the correct place, things like that. Think about everything you have to do today until party time.

After, Gabi taught:

- Now, number the items, from the first to the last, for you to do in order. Also settle a time to finish each task.

Laura found it all difficult but made the list. And finally, she wrote in big letters: go to Gabi's party!

When she finished the list, Laura realized that some tasks were easier than others. She wanted to make the easiest ones first, but she remembered that she needed discipline. Thus, she followed the sequence of the list and then crossed out the first completed item.

Laura put in the closet her pajamas, tidied up her books, cleaned her desk and happily crossed those items off of her list. She wanted to lie down on her bed for a while and rest. But, she remembered her friend's party, she got motivated again and started to tidy her clothes which were all over the place.

Laura was surprised to realize that the tidiness did not take as long as she imagined.

In the middle of the afternoon, Gabi called Laura:

- So, how's it going? Will you be able to come to the party?

- I think so! Replied Laura, cheerfully. - I've almost done everything, just missing school tasks.

- Great! - Shouted Gabi, with joy. – So, go on. I'll be waiting!

In the late afternoon, Laura's parents were proud.

- Congratulations, daughter. You can go to the party, yes. We didn't want to punish you, but work comes before fun - said her father.

Laura went to the party and gave to Gabi a beautiful gift.

The friends had a great time together, and Laura was especially happy.

Like all virtues, organization and discipline are only learned through effort, but they are always very worthwhile.
