Trust in God

It was a very sunny day. Butterflies flew, birds sang. There was life and joy everywhere. However, a girl did not feel that joy around her. Lara was locked in her room, could hear people passing by, talking, on the sidewalk and the children's laughs who were entertained with some game. But even though it was a beautiful day, she didn't want to leave the house.

Lara was very insecure. She was afraid of many things. She did not play on the street with her neighbors, because she was afraid that they would not be nice to her or that they would want to play a game in which she was unable to participate. “If I run, I can fall and hurt myself. Better not even go”- she thought.

Most of her thoughts were pessimistic. She was afraid of strangers, but she was also afraid of being alone. She didn't even want to think about having to take medication or injections. She was always worried about her health. And with many other things as well.

Poor Lara believed that she would be happy running away from what might cause her annoyances. But she didn't know that, in order to have good things, she needed to learn to overcome the normal difficulties of life.

Her favorite food was the chocolate cake that her grandmother prepared for her when she came to visit the family. Lara knew the recipe by heart, but she had never done it. She had no confidence that she would know how to do it right. “If it goes wrong, I will waste the ingredients. And also, if Mama can't help me, I'll have to take the cake out of the oven by myself and I'll burn myself” - she said, giving up trying it.

She was always like that. She saw difficulty in everything and gave up easily. Her parents talked to her trying to help her, because Lara imposed herself so many restrictions and even then, she didn't feel safe or happy anymore.

Lara spent the day at home, not playing with anyone. At night she went to bed, but she was sad. As she said the prayer, she remembered that her mother had taught her that we all have a spiritual friend, who is invisible to our eyes, but we feel with our hearts. This companion is called a guardian angel and always makes us company. Lara closed her eyes and thought, “My guardian angel, I have been sad. But I don't know why or how to solve it. It seems to me that something is missing, but I can't imagine what it is. I hope you can, please, help me...”

The girl slept after saying it.

While sleeping, Lara had a beautiful dream. She saw a huge field full of flowers and a beautiful lake of crystal-clear water. She was filled with joy and ran to dip her feet in that cool water with fish. As she played with her feet in the water, she felt someone come to her side. She was a very kind-looking girl who gave her a big smile. “How nice to see you so happy, Lara! I haven't seen you like that in a while.” Lara didn't recognize her, but she was very happy to see her. "You know, Lara, - said the girl - pay attention because I'm going to teach you something."

"What is it?" Asked the girl, very curious.

“I have seen that you are very concerned, even with things that you are able to do. You are right when you remember that we need to take certain precautions. But this should not be exaggerated, otherwise fear prevents you from learning new things and doing what you like. What is missed is to remember that God always takes care of us. Don't forget that you are very loved by God, Jesus, your parents, grandma, me and many other people. We will always be helping you because you are very important to us and we want to see you happy.”

Then, the girl gave Lara a hug and she felt very good. A wave of tenderness flooded her heart. She felt protected and happy.

Then Lara woke up. The sunlight was already showing through the slits in the window. The girl got up from the bed cheerful and in a good mood. In thought, she thanked her guardian angel for feeling so much better.

"Good morning, Mum," said Lara when she found her mother in the kitchen. And giving her a tender kiss, she asked: Can we make the cake that Grandma taught me?”

Later Lara ate the cake which she made and happily called Grandma to tell her that it was delicious.

Many other things Lara started to do. Some still afraid, others already more confident. Some worked, others not so much...

Lara made new friends, and learned to climb trees, turn somersaults, swim and even get vaccinated without crying. She didn't always succeed in first time, but she kept trying.

Sometimes she was still afraid and then she sang a song that said:

“When fear comes,

I remember who loves me well

So I say:

God takes care of me!

I'm brave

Because God is kind

God is my friend,

God is here with me!”

It is very difficult to face our fears, but little by little Lara succeeded.

She found that she was stronger and more courageous than she thought. And always trying to remember that she was very loved and cared for, Lara also discovered that it was possible to be very happy, indeed.
