The learning of Livia

 
Livia was in the room when her father arrived after work.

- Hi daughter! How was your day? Was it okay? He asked.

On that day in the morning, Livia had gone to the laboratory with her mother for a blood test.

- Ah! It was okay, yes! - She replied - The lady was very nice to me. It hurt much less than I expected.

- That’s good, daughter! Sometimes we imagine it will be much worse than it ends up being.

Livia, changing the subject, said:

- You know, dad, in the laboratory, I was sorry about a young man.

- Why, Li?

- Because he came in a wheelchair. A man and a woman brought him and I think he was very sick. His whole body was crooked. He could not speak, he only made some noise. He kept moving. And when he started to get nervous the woman who took care of him gave him a pacifier. In fact, he was not even young. He was already a little old because he already had white hair.

The girl continued:

- The woman was very affectionate to him but he threw her bag to the floor. Mom got up to help her to pick up everything that had fallen, and the woman said that he was nervous because he was hungry. But she could not give him food because of the medical exam he was going to do. Only she understood what he was saying. She said he was asking for water but she knew that what he really wanted was coffee.

Livia kept saying:

- When they went way to do the exam, the man who was with them continued to talk to mom. He said that they were three brothers and that woman took care of the brother, who was born sick, since they were children. Their mother died and her sister had been caring for him for life. She never got married or even dated anyone, she just took care of him! You need to see, dad, I got pity on him and her!

The father paused, considering all that Livia had told him and then he said:

- Honey, I think this is a good time to use the knowledge that we have learned in the Spirit Center, me in the lectures and you in the classes of evangelization. Which is the most important the material world or the spiritual world? What is our true life?

- The spiritual life - Livia replied.

- That's right, life here on Earth is just a passage, very fast though, if we consider the immortal life of the spirit - said the father, who went on to explain:

- We cannot know why this brother was born with these problems in the physical body. But we know that difficulties and sufferings, if well lived, can greatly improve the moral condition of the spirit. So, Livia, it is not the case that we look at it with pity. We can pray for him, asking God to help him to have the strength to go through this test that will help his spirit to evolve. He is a spirit just like us, son of God, with dignity and the destiny to reach perfection. On top of that, my daughter, he has something very valuable that few people have: another spirit incarnate with him, who loves him so much who was able to dedicate her incarnation to assist him in his debugging process.

Livia stared at her father, paying attention to what he was saying:

- About her, daughter, she seems to be a spirit who in this incarnation is exercising the gift. And also the exercise of unconditional love which is when you do not love a person because he is beautiful or funny or smart or rich none of that. One person loves the other! Only that! No conditions. It is pure love, the love that God has for us. So, we don’t need to feel sorry for her either but rather admiration. One day we will be able to do that too. We must feel sorry for people who have health, money, power and are committing crimes and doing evil. That´s the point!

And to conclude, the father said:

- Li, the knowledge of Spiritism is like glasses that helps us to see reality better because it considers the spiritual life that is the true life. Do you understand it, daughter?

The girl said yes and smiled. The father smiled too and she gave him a hug. Because of the man in the lab Livia had learned a lot on that day.
