The sex of angels

There is in the spirit milieu, as certainly in several human groups, a tendency to discuss matters that are of no importance, such as the sex of the angels, life on the planet Mars, the body used by Jesus during his missionary journey on Earth.

Whatever may be the understanding of these themes, our lives and ourselves, poor mortals, we experience no change, either for good or for evil.

With regard to Jesus, what matters to us is not the nature of his body, but the breadth of his mission and the elevation of his spirit.

We read in the notes of John the Evangelist:

"Pilate therefore entered into the audience, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews? Jesus said to him, "Do you say this about yourself, or have others told you about me?"

Pilate answered and said, Am I a Jew? Your nation and the chief priests have given to me. What have you done? Jesus answered: My kingdom is not of this world; if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered unto the Jews; but now my kingdom is not from here.

Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou then a king? Jesus answered: Thou says that I am a king. I was born for this, and for this I came into the world to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice." (John 18: 33-37)

The kingship of Jesus is the title of an Allan Kardec text he published in chapter II of The Gospel according to Spiritism, in which the codifier of the Spirit doctrine wrote:

"Who is not of this world the kingdom of Jesus all understand, but also on Earth will not he have a kingship? Not always the title of king implies the exercise of temporal power. This title is given by unanimous consensus to all those who, by their genius, ascend to the forefront in any order of ideas, to all who dominate their century and influence the progress of Humanity. It is in this sense that it is often said: the king or prince of philosophers, artists, poets, writers, etc. This royal royalty, consecrated by posterity, come from personal merit, does not often reveal a greater preponderance than that which girds the royal crown? Imperishable is the first, while this other is a plaything of vicissitudes; the generations succeeding the first always bless it, while at times they curse the other. This, the earthly one, ends with life; moral kingship extends and maintains its power, governs, above all, after death. In this respect is not Jesus more powerful king than the potentates of the earth? So he reasoned to tell Pilate, as he said, 'I am a king, but my kingdom is not of this world.' " (The Gospel according to Spiritism, chapter II, item 4)

Who studies the works of Allan Kardec knows the intimate relationship that exists between the moral teachings of Jesus and the so-called spirit moral:

"The morality of the higher spirits is summed up, like that of Christ, in this evangelical maxim: to do to others what we would have others do to us, that is, to do good and not evil. In this principle man finds a universal rule of proceeding, even for his minor actions." (Spirits' Book, Introduction, part VI)

In 1939, seventy-five years after Kardec had written the text "The Royalty of Jesus," transcribed above, the explanation that was lacking in spirit works about the exceptional nature of Christ came to us, thus confirming his condition as a model and guide of the Humanity. And it came through Chico Xavier, who psychographed the text below:

"Pray the traditions of the spiritual world that in the direction of all phenomena, of our system, there is a Community of Pure Spirits and Elected by the Supreme Lord of the Universe, in whose hands the reigns of the life of all planetary collectivities are preserved. This Community of angelic and perfect beings, of which Jesus is one of the divine members, to which we have been informed, has only met in the vicinity of the Earth for the solution of decisive problems of the organization and direction of our planet, for twice over the course of known millennia. The first occurred when the Earth orb left the solar nebula in order to launch, in Time and Space, the beacons of our cosmogonic system and the prodromes of life in the ignited matter of the planet, and the second, when the Lord's coming to the face of the Earth was decided, bringing to the human family the immortal lesson of his Gospel of love and redemption." (Chico Xavier's A Path of Light, chapter I, psychographic by Emmanuel)
