Why do we fail?

We read in one of Allan Kardec's texts, as the reader can check by referring to chapter XX of The Gospel according to Spiritism, that many among those called to Spiritism have gone away - and surely many others continue to stray away from righteousness or duty.

Why does this happen?

The question is pertinent, given the clarity of the Spirit teachings, which does not deceive anyone and shows us that on the road of life, as we also learn in the Gospel, each person reaps what he sows.

Spiritism teaches that our earthly existences are preceded by a long preparation and, excepting the usual exceptions, we play a decisive role in the so-called reincarnation.

In an article published in the Spirit Magazine of June 1866, Kardec tells us that when leaving the Earth, according to the faculties acquired here, each one seeks the means that is his own, unless he is still in the night, nothing seeing or hearing. Later, when he prepares to reincarnate, he submits his ideas to the decisions of the group to which he belongs. The group discusses the subject, researches, advises. The Spirit can then advise, enlighten, fortify, follow his path if he wants, knowing that he will have on earth's journey a multitude of invisible spirits who will not lose sight of him and watch him.

We have, as it can be seen, innumerable reasons to overcome the trials and difficulties that appear on our path, and yet few are the ones who succeed.

In his book titled The Messengers (Os Mensageiros), a work psychographed by Chico Xavier, André Luiz gives us news on the subject.

During a visit to the Messengers Center of the Ministry of Communication, one of the governing bodies of the colony “Our Home ("Nosso Lar"), André learned that the Messengers prepare workers to become living letters of help and help to those who suffer in the Threshold, the Crust and in the Dark. Numerous companions are trained there to spread hopes and consolations, instructions and warnings, in the various sectors of planetary evolution. Compact groups of apprentices for reincarnation are organized, and hundreds of mediums and lecturers leave the institution annualy as well as spiritual comfort workers in considerable quantity, enabled by the Messenger Center.

Rare, however, are those who triumph. Some get partial execution of the task, but most fail at all.

Reading this and other books that deal with the subject, it can see that the causes of failure are varied, but there is a common element present in all of them, which is the manifestation of pride and of their beloved children - vanity and selfishness.

Many people, in fact, wish to be happy at any cost, forgetting that there can be no happiness over others' unhappiness and that, in the face of obstacles and thorns of walking, the evil that makes us evil is the evil we do, not the evil they supposedly do to us.
