The Problem Of Gluttony

Carla was a girl who loved to eat. She was never picky with what she was offered. She would accept anything in the blink of an eye! She plunged into the pleasure of chewing no matter what they gave her!

It was no use for her mother to warn her to avoid so much food because Carla could not stop trying everything she was offered.

Until one day came the time when her clothes did not fit her anymore. She tried all the dresses, slacks, shorts, sweaters, everything in the wardrobe. Nothing! Even her sneakers were tight! They did not fit her feet!

So she began to cry desolately:

- Buaaa... buaa... buaa... What am I going to do now?

Her mother came running to know what was going on, when she heard her daughter crying:

- What happened, Carla?

And with her face red from crying, tears streaming down her face, she explained:

- Mom! I do not know what to do! I do not have a single outfit in my closet that fits me! What now? What am I going to do?

Her mother approached her, sympathetic to her situation, but unable to help her:

- Carla, Mommy warned you, honey! Everything has a price! Our body does not tolerate too much food! It needs care and we cannot eat everything that is in front of us! Gluttony is a flaw!

- But I love to eat, Mom!

- Yes, Carla! However, you have to stop overeating urgently otherwise you will turn into an... an… elephant!

The girl started to cry even more. She was desolate.

With pity for her, the mother sat on a chair and placed the girl on her lap, hugging her with much love:

- Dear daughter, I'm here to help you. I will do whatever is necessary, however you need to see a doctor and start a diet that he will give you, understood?

- Yes, Mom!

- So I'm going to make an appointment with the doctor, then I'll tell you when to come with me.

- All right, Mom. This way I cannot go on!...

- Great. I hope you can control your appetite, okay?

On the appointed day, Carla’s mother woke her up and, after getting ready, they left for the doctor's office. Carla was happy until she heard the doctor say:

- Carla, you need to lose a lot of weight. Thus your diet will be strict. He handed her a sheet of paper with the medical recommendations.

When she saw what was written, she made a face:

- All that?

The doctor smiled, confirming:

- Yes, Carla. Only that!

- But, Doctor, I'll starve!

- No, Carla, you'll get used to it, and you'll be happy and much leaner soon. OK?

Carla left the doctor’s office devastated. How to eat so little? She would starve!

As there was no other way, Carla gradually adapted to the diet and soon was eating much less and was very satisfied by the weight she lost. When she returned to the doctor's office, he said:

- Congratulations, Carla! It's going very well. Keep it that way! Everything will be fine!

Some time later, Carla returned to the doctor's office with her mother and she asked:

- What's up, Doc? Am I leaner?

- Do you feel good?

- Very well, Doctor.

- So now, just go on with the diet. Soon you will be able to eat something else.

Carla said goodbye to the doctor and left the office feeling happy. She no longer felt the compulsion to eat. She preferred to drink water, tea or soft drinks with less sugar.

Three months later, Carla entered the classroom and the class applauded her. Gladly, Carla walked over to her desk and sat down.

A classmate sitting behind her wanted to know what she had done to lose weight. Carla told him and he asked for the doctor's address. Soon they were friends, and Carla helped him solve his weight problem.

They became, in addition to classmates, great friends, and Carla never overate as before, because she understood that eating should now only be what was necessary!
